Police Log April 17: Theft, assault, truck stolen

State police from the Media barracks said Kenneth Gregory Shamberged, 71, of Wilmington, was charged with retail theft after he stole $28 worth of merchandise from Wegmans in Concord Township. The incident happened on March 13.

Austin Joseph Wescoat, 24, of Tionesta, Pa., was charged with simple assault after he got into a fight with his cousin at Firewaters in Concord Township at 11:24 p.m. on March 18, police said. According to the report, Wescoat grabbed his cousin by the shirt and threw him to the ground after an argument turned physical. The victim was bleeding from the head, and taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment. Wescoat was arraigned and bail was set at $50,000.

A Texas man was arrested on DUI charges in Chadds Ford Township on March 23. Police identified the driver as Kyle Jacob Davis, 23. The report said Davis was stopped after a trooper observed traffic violations. It was later determined that the accused was incapable of safe driving, police said.

Daniel Patrick McAleer, 27, of Philadelphia, was charged with trying to buy a firearm while legally prohibited. According to the police report, McAleer tried to buy a weapon at Targetmaster in November but was denied when the state background check kicked the application because he’s a prohibited person.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy at Garnet Valley High School on April 1 after he was found to have a knife in his possession. After the arrest and processing, the boy was released to his mother’s custody.

Sometime between 11:55 p.m. on April 2 and 1:28 a.m. on April 3, two men, wearing all black, stole a Ford E 250 Econoline Van from Garnet Ford in Chadds Ford Township after stealing wheels from a Ford F 150. The Econoline was their escape vehicle, the police report said but has since been recovered.

State police from the Avondale barracks reported that two men, both white, stole merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on April 9 at 4:11 p.m. No other details were released.

Charles Edward McNeely, 61, of Kennett Square, was charged with DUI following a Jan. 17 single-vehicle accident on Route 82, near West Road, in West Marlborough Township, police said. According to the report, McNeely was found trying to conceal himself by lying in the grass near the accident location. Police said he showed signs of intoxication and was taken to Paoli Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Southern Chester County Regional Police

Nataliya V. Thompson, 40, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI and a related traffic offense, following a March 31 traffic stop at 12:23 a.m., police said. Police on stationary patrol in West Grove Borough observed a 2017 Nissan with heavy damage to the front passenger side. The vehicle fit the description of a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run crash in Kennett Square Borough approximately 20 minutes earlier. Police said they observed the vehicle swerve over the center and fog lines several times and initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street. Police observed signs of intoxication, they said, and Thompson was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. She submitted to a chemical test of her breath, which showed a blood alcohol level of 0.097 percent. She was processed and later released pending issuance of a summons.
