Crebilly bus to Pittsburgh

Area residents interested in the fate of Crebilly Farm and who want to see Commonwealth Court in action now have a chance to witness an appeal first hand. Randell Spackman, of Thornbury Farm, has hired a bus for people to take to Pittsburgh on May 6 to watch the proceedings.

Westtown Township supervisors in December 2017, verbally denied Toll Bros’ request for a plan that would develop the Crebilly Farm property with 319 new homes. They released a written report in February of 2018 and Toll appealed the decision to Chester County Court of Common Pleas. That court upheld the supervisors’ decision. Toll then appealed to Commonwealth Court.

Originally scheduled for Philadelphia in June, the court moved the venue to Pittsburgh and moved the date to May. While the proceedings are strictly for oral arguments, Spackman said he hopes the presence of area residents will have an impact.

“I hope it will help the judges recognize how important the decision is. … It’s a way to make our voices heard,” he said in a brief interview.

Spackman also wrote in setting up a web page for bus tickets: “Several groups and interested parties are all working together to make a statement and presence by filling up the courtroom in Pittsburgh. We’ll fill one bus first and then start on the second. If we don’t reach a threshold number to fill the second bus, we will refund your ticket purchase. The coach holds 54 passengers.”

Bus tickets are $45 each. Credit cards will be charged a total of $48.24, which includes credit card processing fees. Seating is first come, first served.

Tickets are the placeholder, reservation, and will be needed to board the bus. Travelers will need to print tickets at home or use mobile tickets supplied at purchase.

Spackman said the bus will leave Thornbury Farm at 6 a.m. on May 6. The farm is at 1256 Thornbury Road, West Chester, PA 19318. He anticipates returning home by 4 or 5 p.m.

Coffee and refreshments will be available for the ride out. Convenient parking at Spackman Farm.
