Police Log Aug. 28: Burglary in Chadds Ford; fatal accident still under investigation; fake IRS scam

PSP Logo• State policed are investigating a burglary on Ridge Road in Chadds Ford Township. A report said someone entered a home in the 100 block of Ridge Road without permission and stole sneakers, a video game console and stereo equipment. The burglary happened sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 17 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 19.

• State police from the Avondale barracks are continuing their investigation into the fatal hit and run accident from the weekend of Aug. 23 and 24. As previously reported, Arthur Joseff Teitsort-Birog was killed when his bicycle was struck by an SUV driven by Alan Michael Medina Barajas on Route 926 just east of Schoolhouse Lane in East Marlborough Township. Tpr. Samantha Minnucci said the troop can’t even discuss possible charges at this point in the investigation.

• The Kennett Township Police Department is issuing a scam alert warning to area residents. This agency is investigating numerous incidents of residents being contacted via telephone by persons identifying themselves as agents from the Internal Revenue Service criminal investigation unit. The actor’s advise recipients of the phone calls that the police will arrest them if they fail to comply with their request. Residents are urged not to release personal information financial information or provide any details to these actors.  If you’re a recipient of this type of incident or any other incident please report the incident to your local police.

• Pennsylvania State Police will be conducting Sobriety Checkpoints in various locations through the Labor day weekend.

• Someone took a large stuffed horse from the front of a home on Heyburn Road in Chadds Ford Township, then destroyed and returned it, a police report said. The incident happened sometime between midnight on Aug. 23 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 24. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 484-840-1000.

• Police said there were no injuries in a two-car accident on Route 202 near Dilworthtown Road on Aug. 15. Both cars were traveling south in the left hand lane of Route 202 when the lead car slowed for traffic. The second driver — identified as Ryan D. Carlson, 29, of West Chester — failed to slow in in time and struck the lead car.

• A Lincoln University woman was arrested on drug charges at Transcend Yoga in Chadds ford Township. Police arrested Linda Sue Potter, 35, at 9:33 a.m. on Aug. 24. A police report said various drugs and paraphernalia were found in he vehicle.

• Jordan Joseph Reid, 29, of Wilmington, was arrested on DUI and drug charges following a traffic stop on Route 1 at Cheyney Road, according to a police report. The stop was made at 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 24.

• Two people were victims when someone broke into their vehicles that were parked at the Concord Country Club on Aug. 20. One victim had a pocketbook taken after someone broke her front passenger window. The second victim left her pocketbook in the trunk, but her car was unlocked. The thief took the pocketbook, currency and an iPhone.

• A 19-year-old man from Wilmington was charged with DUI after being stopped on Cossart Road in Pennsbury Township on Aug. 25. State police from Troop J, Avondale barracks, said Brandon Marquis Chambers was stopped for a stop sign violation. It was determined at the time that Chambers was under the influence of marijuana and that he was in possession of the drug, according to the police report. The stop was made at 11:49 p.m.

• William Dollard, 65, of Wilmington, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on Aug. 10 at Route 322 and Fellowship Drive in Concord Township. Police said Dollard showed signs of impairment when stopped for violations of the state vehicle code at 2:57 a.m.

• Pennsylvania State Police from the Avondale barracks will conduct child safety seat inspections from 2-8 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Avondale Fire Co. Inspections are by appointment only. To make an appointment, contact Tpr. Samantha Minnucci at 610-268-2102. The inspections are free, police said in a press release.
