Police Log Oct. 4: Harassment, DUIs, thefts

On Sept. 18, John Waters, 36, of Glen Mills, was arrested for harassment with physical contact during a domestic dispute, according to a police report. The victim was a 69-year-old woman. The incident happened shortly before midnight near the area of Hawthorne Lane in Concord Township,

Police said Bryn Black, 27, of Wilmington, was arrested for DUI in Birmingham Township on Sept. 15. According to the report, police made a traffic stop near the area of Wilmington Pike and Penn Oaks Drive in Birmingham Township at 11:25 p.m., but no reason for the stop was given in the report.

On Sept. 14, a 28-year-old man from Fairhope, Ala. — not identified in the report — was arrested for stealing a hot dog and a bottle of water, valued at $5.06, from the Sunoco at Routes 1 and 202.

Someone stole a $26.99 bottle of blood pressure control supplement from the Vitamin Shoppe on Route 202 in Chadds Ford Township on Sept. 11. Police are investigating.

Talbots in Concord Township was the victim of counterfeiting on Sept. 9. Police said someone used five $100 bills to buy merchandise.

Police said two vehicles were broken into and had items stolen from them on Brinton Lake Road. The report said police were called at 9:41 a.m. on Aug. 23. Two unidentified suspects broke into the victims' vehicles while they were unoccupied by smashing the window. Suspects then stole personal belongings in plain sight within the vehicle. The estimated total value of items stolen is approximately $850.

Antoine Whitney, 32, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested for shoplifting at the Target store in Concord Township on Aug. 23, a police report said. Whitney is accused of stealing $967 worth of merchandise.

A 35-year-old man from Penns Grove, N.J. was arrested for shoplifting at Wegmans on Aug. 22. The unidentified suspect reportedly removed approximately $97.37 worth of seafood from the store without paying.

State police are investigating the theft of $700 worth of Olay face cream from the Acme in Concord Township on Aug. 21.

On Aug. 18, at approximately 3:37 a.m., troopers were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash involving a blue Honda CRV into a concrete median barrier. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the operator, identified in the report as Gordon Belew, 20, of Colora, Md., was driving under the influence of alcohol. The operator was arrested and transported from the scene.

On Aug. 21, Sardor Pirmatov, 37, of Philadelphia, was arrested for drug possession, according to a police report. Police made the arrest following a traffic stop at 1:50 a.m. at Routes 1 and 202.

On Aug. 10, a 66-year-old man from Cochranville was arrested for shoplifting at Wegmans. The suspect was not identified in the report, but police said he stole $106 worth of groceries.

State police are investigating a burglary at the Living My Best Cigar Life in Chadds Ford Township sometime between 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 9. Police said they observed damage to the front window and an interior glass door. The victim reported that his DVR for the security system was taken, but also said no other items had been taken.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an incident where a female rented a vehicle from Home Depot in Concord Township on July 13, but failed to return it on the agreed-upon date. Also, the woman’s payment information was invalid when Home Depot attempted to run the on-file credit card.

State police said Antoinette Bonilla, 34, of Wilmington, was arrested for shoplifting at Wegmans on Aug. 18. The report said Bonilla was one of three women who stole $450 worth of merchandise from the store.

Police are investigating a case of theft by deception in Concord Township on Sept. 5. The victim, a 67-year-old woman, said she was scammed into sending $2,700 worth of Bitcoin through a Bitcoin ATM by an unknown actor over the phone.

Avondale Barracks

Police are investigating the theft of 37 racing pigeons from a home on Hickory Hill Road in East Marlborough Township on Sept. 29. The report said two people in hoodies and cargo pants stole the birds which are valued at $150,000.

Three teenage boys, ages 16-18, were arrested for DUI at Pennock Avenue and E. Baltimore Pike at 3:53 a.m. on Sept. 30, according to police. The teens were at the Wawa in East Marlborough Township when one told a trooper that the car wouldn’t start and asked for a jump. Police determined that they had driven to Wawa while under the influence of alcohol. The other two boys were passengers.

Police are investigating a case of retail theft at the East Marlborough Township Walmart on Oct. 1. The report said “multiple subjects” stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise at approximately 4:45 p.m. No other details were released.

Police said they arrested a 25-year-old woman from Oxford for DUI following a Sept. 28 single-car crash in Pocopson Township. The report did not identify the woman by name but said she showed signs of impairment when troopers arrived at the scene. The accident happened at 3:13 p.m. on Unionville Wawaset Road at S. Wawaset Road.

State police from the Avondale barracks said they arrested a 28-year-old man from Kennett Square for DUI on W. State Street in Kennett Square on Sept. 26. The report said troopers initiated a traffic stop on Meredith Street at West State Street in Kennett Square for a traffic infraction. Contact was made with the operator and indicators of impairment were observed, the report said. The operator was given field sobriety tests which indicated impairment, and the operator was taken into custody. Drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view in the driver's door pocket and was collected as evidence. The driver was not identified in the report.

A 57-year-old woman from Kennett Square, not identified, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on N. Mill Road at W. State Street on Sept. 26. The report said police made the stop for traffic violations, but also said the driver showed signs of impairment when approached. Field sobriety tests and breath tests confirmed impairment, the report said.

Police said Janice S. Goeller, 68, of Kennett Square, was cited for following too closely after she struck another car from behind on E. Street Road in East Marlborough Township on Sept. 26. That second car then struck a third. The driver of the third car, a 17-year-old girl from Chadds Ford, was injured and transported for treatment.

Police arrested a 57-year-old man from Kennett Square for shoplifting $23 worth of merchandise from the East Marlborough Township Walmart.

Dawn McAllister, 47, of Lincoln University, was arrested for criminal trespass in Pennsbury Township on Sept. 4, a police report said. According to that report, the suspect had been warned to stay off the Windemere Lane property but continued to return.

Kennett Square Police Department

Kennett Square police said they arrested Eric Castillo-Avalos in connection with a stolen license plate. Police received a report of a plate stolen from a rental vehicle on July 21. On July 29, state police from the Media barracks found the plate inside another vehicle that was involved in a one-car crash in which Castillo-Avalos was the driver. Castillo-Avalos was questioned on Sept. 20. However, the report said, the information provided by Castillo-Avalos did not correspond with the timeline of the stolen license plate. Based on the follow-up and the totality of the circumstances, borough police completed a criminal complaint and charges were filed, the report said.
