Police Log June 21: Drug arrests, shoplifting

State police from the Avondale barracks arrested a 31-year-old Philadelphia man on drug possession charges in Kennett Township on June 14. The arrest followed a 2:20 a.m. traffic stop on Route 1 just north of Route 82. After the stop, police said the driver, not identified in the report, showed signs of impairment and consented to a search. That search resulted in the discovery of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Police also said the vehicle, a 2002 Toyota Highlander, was not registered, was uninsured, and was displaying a false paper registration.

A 64-year-old man from Norwood was arrested on drug possession charges in Pennsbury Township on June 16. The suspect was not named in the report, but police said the arrest followed a traffic stop on Baltimore Pike at Fairville Road at 1:14 a.m.

Police said they arrested Kenneth Mazik, 35, of Chadds Ford, for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart. He is accused of stealing $81 worth of merchandise.

Charles D. Rhodes, 49, of Oxford, was charged with following too closely after a two-vehicle crash in East Marlborough Township on June 13, according to police. The accident happened on Union Street just south of Marlbrooke Way. The report said both vehicles were heading north on Union Street when Rhodes’ vehicle rear-ended the other. No injuries were reported.

Police said Thomas Struss, 52, of Crosswicks, N.J., was arrested for DUI in East Marlborough Township on May 31. No details were released other than the arrest followed a disturbance in the 800 block of East Baltimore Pike shortly after 8 p.m.
