UPDATE: According to Chadds Ford Township Manager Matt Baumann, work began on the concrete foundation Monday, June 19. The boring underneath Route 1 should start Thursday and the light should be back to proper operation either late Thursday or sometime Friday morning.

Brenda L. (Wilcox) Baccino, 64, of Oxford, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, at the Chester County Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Brenda will be remembered for her deep love for all those whom she called friends, which includes many, spanning countries, cultures, and religions. Brenda was tenacious and full of life, and her energy was contagious to those who surrounded her.

Brenda enjoyed traveling, cooking, spending time outdoors, and showing up for anyone who needed her without question or expectation of return.
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, she was the daughter of the late Earl Wilcox and the late Alice Bitton Wilcox.
Brenda was a real estate agent in Chester County, retiring in 2011 as a site manager for Baker Residential.
She was an active member of the Kesher Israel Congregation in West Chester.
She is survived by one daughter, Elyse Baccino-Hall and her husband Eric of Downingtown, long-time partner, Louis Baccino of Oxford, and one sister, Jacqueline Hicks and her husband Billy of Kennett Square.
Brenda was predeceased by one sister, Jessie Wilcox.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 19, at the Union Hill Cemetery, 424 North Union Street, Kennett Square.

PennDOT has announced the following weather-dependent road projects that could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area from June 17 through June 23. Motorists are urged to allow extra time traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.
•Vegetation management will continue on various roads through the end of the month. Roads include Route 202 between Oakbourne and E. Pleasant Grove roads in Westtown Township; Route 926 between Pocopson and Birmingham roads in Pocopson and Birmingham townships; and on Pocopson Road, between Routes 926 and 52 in Pocopspn Township.
•As part of the Pulte Homes/Spring Lake project, one lane of northbound Route 202 between Cornerstone and Springhill drives in Concord Township will be closed to traffic June 19-23 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to perform grading work.
•Through June 19, gas line installation will cause daytime lane closures on Route 1 at Elmwood Street in Kennett Township.
•Water main extensions will cause daytime lane restrictions with flagging on High Street between Nields Street and Rosendale Avenue in West Chester through Aug. 31.
•Vegetation management will cause daytime lane closures on Route 926 between Pocopson and Birmingham roads in Pocopson and Birmingham township through June 30. The work will also cause lane closures on Pocopson Road between Routes 926 and 52 through the end of this month.
•Gas line installation will cause daytime lane closures on W. Miner Street, between S. Wayne Street and S. Bradford Avenue in West Chester through June 28.
•Motorists should expect a full daytime closure, with a detour, on N. Concord Road between Route 1 and Station Road in Concord Township because of utility installation. The work is expected to last until July 21.
•Comcast utility improvements will cause weekday lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 1 and State Street between Route 41 and Meredith Street in Avondale and Kennett Square boroughs, and New Garden and Kennett townships through June 22.
•Gas line installation will cause daytime lane closures on Route 1 between Schoolhouse Road and Ladbroke Lane in East Marlborough Township through June 30.
•Roadway reconstruction will cause daytime lane closures on Route 202 between Smithbridge Road and Watkin Avenue, and on Naamans Creek Road between Route 202 and Graystone Drive through Sept. 1.
•Motorists should expect lane restrictions with a detour for trucks on Route 162 at its intersection with Route 82 in Newlin Township because of bridge repair. There is currently no date for completion.
•Madison Jenkins of Chadds Ford was named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2023 Honor Roll lists. Jenkins, majoring in finance, was named to the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00.
•Julianne Bukovacz and Matthew Pulcinella, both from Chadds Ford, were named to the Spring 2023 Dean’s List at Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg.
•Gina Lusvardi of Chadds Ford received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Alabama.
•Emi Arai of Chadds Ford was named to the Dean’s List at Lehigh University in the Spring 2023 semester. Dean’s List status is awarded to students who earn a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.
Widener University’s Class of 2023 included four graduates from Chadds Ford. They are:
•Matthew Winnick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration Cum Laude; •Nicholas DiCostanza earned a Bachelor of Arts Magna Cum Laude in biology; •Vincent Marinaro earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration; •Jordan Goddard earned a doctorate in occupational therapy.
•United Way of Chester County has announced the appointment of Kari Sullivan as the new director of Resource Development. Her background includes expertise in fundraising, workplace campaign management, mobilizing volunteers, disaster relief, and immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts. Her responsibilities will include leading the organization’s fundraising initiatives and working closely with donors, corporate partners, and community leaders to build sustainable funding streams.

•The board of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine has announced the appointment of Bertram L. Lawson II as president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. Lawson will take office on Monday, July 10. Lawson is a seasoned 24-year YMCA professional who most recently served as the president and CEO of the YMCA of Central New York, which boasts nine branches and more than thirty program sites in Central New York.
