Media Barracks

Police said they arrested Thomas Abruzzese, 70, of West Chester, for stealing $57 of merchandise from Wegmans on March 25. He was taken into custody in the parking lot without incident, police said.

State police from the Media barracks are investigating a report of harassment with physical contact. The report said a 13-year-old girl from Aston related that an unidentified male placed his hand on her throat for approximately 10 seconds at the Sky Zone in Concord Township on March 6.

Avondale Barracks

No details were released, but state police from the Avondale barracks are investigating a reported case of deception. A 32-year-old woman from Kennett Square told police that she was the victim of theft by fraud and forgery. She told police that she $11,267 had been stolen.

Police are also investigating a hit-and-run accident on Village Drive in East Marlborough Township on March 28. Police said a vehicle either entered or exited a parking stall and struck a parked car.

Kennett Square Police Department

Scam alert. The Kennett Square Police Department has been made aware of fraudulent phone calls that appear to originate from the department’s phone number (610-444-0501). Please be advised that these calls are NOT from Kennett police. Scammers can manipulate caller ID information to make it seem like a legitimate source is contacting you. These individuals may attempt to obtain personal or financial information. What You Should Do: Do not provide any personal information, banking details, or passwords over the phone. Do not send money or gift cards to anyone claiming to be law enforcement. Hang up immediately if something feels suspicious.

On March 30, at approximately 9:52 a.m., Kennett Square Police officers responded to a report of harassment in the 500 Block of West State Street in. The victim, a mail carrier, reported that she had been subjected to inappropriate comments by a male individual, identified as John Schlegel of West Chester. The investigation revealed that Schlegel, an 83-year-old male, had made unwanted and lewd comments towards the victim during their interaction. The comments were deemed to be threatening, causing the victim to feel harassed and intimidated. Charges were filed in District Court 15-3-04.

An arrest warrant was issued for Humberto Luna-Lopez on April 7 for not complying with a Megan’s Law registration requirement, police said. According to the report, he was to have been verified between March 15 and 24, but police received a fax on March 30 that he had failed to register.

Police said David Wilson III, 31, of Coatesville, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses after the 2018 Chevrolet was stopped for repeatedly failing to maintain its lane of travel. The incident occurred on April 4, at approximately 1:31 a.m., starting in the 100 block of E. Mulberry Street and continuing to the 600 block of Unionville Road, where the traffic stop was conducted. Upon making contact with Wilson, Officers observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests showed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a 0.203 percent blood alcohol level. He was processed and later released at his residence pending issuance of a summons.

Pennsylvania State Police

A 75-year-old man from Medias, not identified, was arrested for trying to steal $466 worth of merchandise from Wegmans on Nov. 5. According to the report, the unnamed suspect left the store with a full cart without paying, but he was stopped in the parking lot by the store’s loss prevention team.

A 59-year-old woman from Kennett Square, Diane L. Plummer, was injured in a one-car crash on Webb Road in Chadds Ford Township on Dec. 29. According to the police report, Plummer was driving north on Webb, just north of Atwater, when she lost control of her vehicle and was swerving to avoid a deer.

Avondale Barracks

Police are saying speed was the cause of a two-car crash on Parkersville Road in Pennsbury Township on Dec. 23. Yu Zheng, 56, was cited, according to the report. According to police, Zheng was traveling in the right lane on E. Baltimore Pike and making a right turn onto Parkersville Road when he slid and struck another vehicle that was stopped at the stop sign on Parkersville. Police said Zheng was traveling too fast for the existing conditions. No injuries were reported, but both vehicles were towed.

Lucian J. Junto, 83, of Perryville, Md., was cited for careless driving following a two-car crash on Baltimore Pike in Pennsbury Township on Dec. 2, police said. Both Junto and the other driver were transported for treatment of injuries. According to the report, Junto was traveling northbound on Baltimore Pike, driving at a high rate of speed without its headlights on. The other car was traveling southbound on Baltimore Pike as it entered the left turning lane and was struck while making a left onto Hickory Hill.

Police Log Nov. 5: Shoplifting, DUIs, indecent assault

Police said Shockee Wilson, 32, of Wilmington, was arrested for shoplifting at Wegmans on Oct. 14. He is accused of stealing 30 bottles of EOS Body Lotion valued at $299.70.

Avondale Barracks

State police are investigating a case of harassment communication in East Marlborough Township. According to the report, an individual is continually phoning AFC Urgent Care in Kennett multiple times per day without any legitimate reason.

Police said Zachary Rinck, 35, of West Chester, was. arrested for DUI on W. Lafayette Drive in Pocopson Township on Oct. 25. According to the report, police stopped Rinck for speeding. After making contact with him, the police administered standardized field sobriety tests, then arrested him for DUI and drug possession.

Kennett Square Police Department

On October 16, District Court 15-3-04 issued an arrest warrant for Jaclyn Carpenter for a March 30 DUI incident.  On that date, at 9:23 a.m., police were dispatched for an erratic driver operating in the borough. The witness and reporting party stated that the suspected vehicle failed to remain within its lane boundaries on multiple occasions while traveling southbound on N. Union Street and made an illegal left-hand turn at a steady red light onto E. Cypress Street. Officers made contact with the driver, who was identified as Jaclyn Carpenter, 36, of West Chester. Police said they observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests showed impairment. She was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of her blood. Carpenter was processed and later released pending issuance of a summons.

The Kennett Square Police Department Criminal Investigative Division arrested and charged Elpidio Galvez-Gonzalez with endangering the welfare of children, indecent assault, and harassment after a juvenile made a report of being touched inappropriately by him. On Oct. 22, an interview was conducted with Galvez-Gonzalez at the Kennett Square Police Department, in which he admitted to touching the juvenile inappropriately. He was then transported to Central Booking at Chester County Prison, where he was processed and arraigned.
