Police Log May 15: Terroristic threats, crashes, stolen car

Media Barracks

State police from the Media Barracks are investigating a report of a burglary on Beech Tree Drive in Concord Township. The incident happened sometime between 11 a.m. on May 10 and 1 p.m. on May 12. According to the incident report, the couple was away visiting relatives but found their rear glass door shattered. Multiple bedrooms and offices were ransacked. The victims are currently taking inventory to determine the exact amount of property that was taken.

Joshua Smallwood, 36l, of New Castle, Del., was arrested for shoplifting at the Home Depot in Concord Township, a police report said. The incident happened on May 7. According to the report, Smallwood is accused of taking a chainsaw, a chainsaw blower combination kit, and a hedge trimmer.

Police said Donna Hendricks, 54, of Dover, was arrested for shoplifting at LensCrafters on Route 202. She allegedly stole three pairs of sunglasses with a value of almost $1,500.

Avondale Barracks

Police said an unoccupied parked vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Wrangler, rolled from the parking lot at 906 E, Baltimore Pike into southbound E. Baltimore Pike, in East Marlborough Township. It struck one vehicle and caused that car to strike a third. No injuries were reported in this crash, but the second vehicle was towed from the scene. The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. on May 7.

A 17-year-old boy from Philadelphia was arrested after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a utility pole in Pennsbury Township on May 3. According to the police report, troopers were called for a report of an erratic driver. The witness observed the actor exit the crashed vehicle and run into a wooded area, where he was ultimately captured by PSP Avondale Troopers. It was discovered that the vehicle was listed as stolen by the Philadelphia Police Department, several days prior. The incident happened at 6:42 p.m. at Route 1 and Independence Way.

Police said Kerry Morley, 20, of Glenmoore, was cited following a two-vehicle crash on Doe Run Road in West Marlborough Township shortly before 4 p.m. on April 30. According to the report, Morley was traveling behind another vehicle on Doe Run Road, south of Dupont Road. The other car slowed to prepare for a right turn onto Dupont Road and Morley attempted to pass but failed to do so with safety, striking the rear driver side of Unit 2. Morley then failed to stop at the scene of the crash, and she fled northbound on Doe Run Road, police said. No injuries were reported.

Kennett Square Police Department

A police report said an arrest warrant was issued on May 8 for Geronimo Ortiz-Ayala on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and other related offenses. According to the incident report, police were dispatched for a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of Center Street on May 6. Victims reportedly told police that Ortiz-Ayala forcefully banged on their front door, brandished a pocketknife, and aggressively confronted them, proceeding to physically assault the victims and placing the pocketknife on one subject's neck.

Angel Velasquez, 29, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses after the 2012 Chevrolet was stopped for aftermarket tint and failing to maintain its lane of travel, police said. The incident occurred on May 4, at approximately 2:09 a.m., in the 500 block of Birch Street. Upon making contact with Velasquez, police observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests showed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a 0.087 percent blood alcohol level. He was processed and later released pending issuance of a summons.

Police said Pedro Gomez-Sanchez, 28, of Kennett Square, was arrested and charged with DUI after the 2007 Toyota he was driving was stopped for failing to maintain its lane of travel. The incident happened on May 6, at approximately 10:35 p.m., in the 100 block of East Cypress Street. Upon making contact with Gomez-Sanchez, officers said they observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests showed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.274 percent. He was transported to central booking at Chester County Prison to await arraignment.
