Police Log July 12: Pedestrians struck, DUIs, thefts

Police said two people, one a 9-year-old girl, were seriously injured after they were struck by a car on Beaver Valley Road just after 9 p.m. on July 4. The injured were not identified and the driver fled the scene. According to the police report, the vehicle was traveling east on Beaver Valley Road towards Ruby Road while the pedestrians were walking in the grass alongside the roadway. The vehicle traveled outside of the roadway and continued onto the grass striking the pedestrians.

Michael Angeline, 56, of Brookhaven, was arrested following a one-vehicle crash in which police said he was DUI. The incident happened at midnight on June 11 at the intersection of Route 1 and Webb Road in Chadds Ford Township.

The Meat House on Route 202 was burglarized during the overnight hours of May 21, 22. Police are investigating the theft in which they said two people forced entry into the store and stole a safe with cash. The store lost close to $2,000 between cash and property.

The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an incident where an unknown woman stole a single Bluntville "Pink Diva" cigar valued at $1.29 from the Sunoco station on Route 2002 in Chadds Ford.

Avondale Barracks

The Pennsylvania State Police, Avondale Barracks, will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint between July 14 and July 16. A sobriety checkpoint is a traffic safety checkpoint where the troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for observable facts or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug impairment.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man from Kennett Square for DUI in West Marlborough Township on July 9 shortly before 1 a.m. The report did not identify the driver or provide details other than the incident happened somewhere on Newark Road.

State police said they arrested 21-year-old Daniel Crew of Landenberg for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Walmart on July 7. Crew is accused of stealing $517 worth of merchandise, the report said.

Police are investigating a reported theft of several firearms from a residence on Blue Stone Court in Pennsbury Township shortly after midnight on July 6. No other details were released.

State police are also investigating the theft of items from two vehicles parked on E. Locust Lane in east Marlborough Township on July 1. No other details were released.

Someone stole almost $95 worth of merchandise from the East Marlborough Walmart on June 24. Among the items taken was a $65 computer tablet.

Erin G. Oechsle, 25, of Oxford, was cited for careless driving following a two-car crash on E. Baltimore Pike near Village Lane on June 6, police said. According to the report, Oechsle was westbound on Baltimore Pike but was distracted and struck another vehicle that had stopped for a red light. Police reported no injuries.

A 61-year-old woman was arrested for shoplifting more than $100 in merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough Township on July 4. The suspect’s identity was not revealed.

Police said they arrested a 55-year-old woman for trespassing in Pocopson Township. Details were not released other than the incident happened at 2:47 p.m. on June 30.

Police are investigating the theft of four catalytic converters from two landscaping trucks at a property on Gale Lane in East Marlborough Township.

A 22-year-old man from Wilmington, along with two teenage boys also from Wilmington, was arrested for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart on July 4. Police said they had stolen various home items totaling approximately $994.

Police said they cited a 16-year-old girl for her involvement in a June 29 two-car crash on Doe Run Road in East Marlborough Township. Both drivers were suspected of receiving minor injuries, but neither were transported. According to the report, the teenage driver was traveling east on West Doe Run Road and the other car was traveling west. The younger driver crossed the double line into the other lane of travel, striking the other car.

Kelly J. Bini, 54, of Kennett Square, was cited for failing to stop at a red light and striking another vehicle at the intersection of E. Street Road and Unionville Road, police said. The accident happened on June 29 at 6:33 p.m.

Police said Owen D. Prysock, 18, of Kennett Square, was cited after the Jeep Compass he was driving ran off Lenape Unionville Road on July 1. The incident happened at 8:37 p.m. just west of Locust Grove Road.

A 27-year-old man from Chadds Ford, not identified, was arrested for DUI in Pocopson Township at 1:26 a.m. on June 17. The arrest was made on Pocopson Road. No reason for the stop was given.
