Water main break in Kennett Sq.

Due to a water main break, water service will be interrupted on the 400 block of Maple Alley.  The Borough estimates repairs to be completed this evening.

After completion and restoration of water service, as a precautionary measure, the 400 block of Maple Alley will be on a boil water notice until the evening of evening Monday, July 24, to allow for testing of the impacted area.

Borough replacing water main

Kennett Square’s water main on E. South Street — between S. Union Street and S. Walnut Street — will be replaced this summer, according to an email from the borough. The work is tentatively planned to start on or about Aug. 7 and is expected to be completed by November. The contractor, Barrasso Excavation Inc. will work from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. They may work later on certain days to complete a day’s work but no later than 7 p.m. They may also periodically work Fridays and weekends if needed.

The one exception to this schedule is that work in the intersection of South Street and S. Union Street will be performed overnight, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. That work is expected to take up to three nights to complete. The intersection will be re-opened to traffic during non-work hours.

During most of the construction, one lane of E. South Street will be closed during work hours, but the road will remain open to traffic with traffic control. The road is planned to be fully re-opened for its full width after work hours.

Full road closures will be needed while work is performed at the various intersections during work hours. Detour routes will be provided around the construction zones during times of road closures. It is suggested to allow for additional travel time during this period to account for any potential delays from road closures. Each closure is expected to be approximately three days. As noted, the intersections and roads will be re-opened to traffic each day after work hours. Detours and road closures will be posted on the Boroughs website and Facebook page.

If your water service is connected to the water main that is being replaced, the Borough anticipates your water will be shut off for one day while a new service is installed (likely in August).  Each respective resident will be directly notified in advance of any shut-offs.

The Borough now crafts a monthly e-newsletter to keep residents informed of “what’s happening” in the Borough.  You can sign-up to receive the Borough’s monthly e-newsletter here.
