Hillendale Elementary School students and parent volunteers kept the school’s activism on Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year with a variety of projects Monday.

Students put some finishing touches on some raised flower beds headed for the Pocopson Home.

There was a change for this year, however. Typically, Hillendale makes lunches for several organizations and get-well cards for patients at AI Dupont Children’s Hospital. But there was more this year.

Volunteers still made get-well cards for child patients during the day of service, but also for patients at Pocopson Home. They also made raised flower beds for Pocopson Home.  But also, this year, students made surgical caps for special needs kids who need operations.

One PTO volunteer who asked that she not be identified said it was a day to “learn, create and donate.”
