Joseph Ormond Birmingham Jr.  of Landenberg

Joseph Ormond Birmingham Jr.,  51, of Landenberg, died suddenly Friday, Aug. 21, as a result of an automobile accident. Born in West Chester, he was the son of Joseph Ormond Birmingham Sr. and Veronica Barbour Birmingham of Landenberg.  Joe graduated from Kennett High School in 1987 and attended Lock Haven and Kutztown Universities.

Joseph Ormond Birmingham Jr.

Joe was often known as “Mr. Landenberg” or sometimes even the “Mayor.” He was passionate about writing, music, and gardening. He used his knowledge to create a social media presence to keep the community informed and engaged. He enjoyed his historical research almost as much as sharing his findings with local residents.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Veronica Birmingham of West Grove, and Kathryn Swinehart and her husband Brian of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, Bryan Birmingham and his fiancée Nicole of Grovetown, Ga.; one nephew Stephen and three nieces Alexis, Kaylie and Aaliyah; and former spouse Angela Shrewsbury.

You are invited to Joseph’s memorial mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Informal, casual attire recommended.  However, masks and social distancing will be required. For those unable to join us, we are setting up a live stream that will be available shortly. Interment will be held privately. The family intends to have a memorial celebration later in the year as the COVID crisis eases.

Contributions in his memory may be made to White Clay Creek Preserve through the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation. Please visit their website: www.paparksandforests.org and designate White Clay Creek Preserve. Arrangements are by Grieco Funeral Home & Crematory (484-734-8100).
