The new Winterthur exhibition series Eye on the Iconic, will debut October 20, 2017, with Royal Splendor: The Coronation Gown from The Crown, featuring the replica coronation gown worn in episode five (“Smoke and Mirrors”) of the Netflix series The Crown. The gown will be on view through January 7, 2018.

The Crown is a dramatized history of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Like the richly symbolic centuries-old coronation ceremony, the actual coronation dress is iconic—one of the most celebrated dresses of the 20th century and a symbol of a historical moment witnessed by millions around the world. The replica dress being featured at Winterthur also is a true icon and was created in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

View this dress and experience the rich connections an object like this forms between the Queen of England, her people, and the world through the celebration and memory of important historical moments. Future presentations in the Eye on the Iconic series will highlight similar, remarkable objects, showcased individually.
