Road Report for June 15 to June 19

PennDOT has announced the following weather-dependent road projects that could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area from June 15 to June 19. Motorists are urged to allow extra time traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Guiderail, ADA curb ramps, and curb installation will cause 24/7 lane closures on Route 1 between Creek and Rings roads in Chadds Ford Township through June 21.

Utility installation will cause daytime lane closures on W. Miner Street between Wayne Avenue and Potter Alley in West Chester through Sept. 30.

Vegetation management will cause daytime lane closures on Route 842 between Thouron and Ryan roads in West Marlborough Township through July 2.

Vegetation management will also cause daytime lane closures on Brinton’s Bridge Road between Birmingham and Creek roads in Birmingham Township through July 11.

Utility installation will cause daytime lane restrictions on E. South Street between Church Alley and Park Avenue in Kennett Square from June 2 through June 22.

Sidewalk and curb construction will cause daytime lane closures on Creek Road between Route 1 and Upper Bank Drive in Chadds Ford Township through July 20.

Roadway reconstruction will cause lane shifts on the Conchester Highway between Chelsea Parkway and Cherry Tree Road in Upper Chichester from July 21 through October 15.

Roadway construction will continue next week on Route 1 between the Kennett Oxford Bypass and Greenwood Road in Kennett and East Marlborough townships through Friday, July 31, motorists should expect daytime lane closures in both direction as crews will mill and overlay Route 1; construct a third travel lane on certain sections of the road in each direction and use existing shoulders and right turn lanes to create a third lane for the rest of the corridor; build sidewalks along the north side of Route 1 from Schoolhouse Road to the Longwood Village Shopping Center entrance; eliminate the left turn movement from Orchard Avenue onto Route 1; install two new Dynamic Message Signs; and upgrade five signalized intersections

Intersection reconstruction will cause a full 24/7 closure of Bethel Avenue between Conchester Highway and Cherry Tree Road through late 2026. Detours to be posted.

Academic Achievement June 12

Chadds Ford native Julia Boettler was named to Slippery Rock University’s dean’s list for the Spring 2026 semester. The Dean’s List consists of SRU undergraduate students who earned an adjusted semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, based on a schedule of at least 12 newly attempted and earned credits.

James Breen of Chadds Ford graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania on May 9 with a Master of Education in assessment, curriculum, and teaching, integrative STEM education.

Joseph Williamson of Chadds Ford was named to the Elmira College Dean’s List for the Winter 2026 Term. Full-time undergraduate students registered for at least 12 computable credit hours and earning a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher at the end of Term I or Term II are placed on the Dean’s List at the College.

Echo Chappelle of Chadds Ford was named to the Champlain College Dean’s List for the Spring 2026 semester. Students on the Dean’s List have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester. Chappelle is currently majoring in game art.

Matthew Pulcinella of Chadds Ford was named to the Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg Spring 2026 Dean’s List. The Dean’s List, prepared at the end of each semester, recognizes those students who have achieved academic distinction. To qualify for the Dean’s List, the student must have earned a GPA of at least 3.50, on a 4.0 scale, in 12 or more semester hours of letter grades.
