Concord in brief

It was a quick and uneventful meeting for Concord Township Council Tuesday night.

Council Co-Vice President John Crossan announced that the township received a $4,000 Healing the Planet Grant from Keeping Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Giant Company. The money will be used to buy about 40 native shade trees to be planted along the township park’s walking trail.

Township manager Amanda Serock announced the completion of the Schoolhouse Lane project. The right turn deceleration lane from southbound Route 1 is open and the left turn restrictions are in place.

Police are investigating the reported theft of a necklace that happened on July 27 on Sharpley Drive. The necklace is described as a gold chain with a 1-karat diamond.

On July 10, shortly before 5:30 p.m., someone stole $17 worth of condoms from Wegmans and fled.  Police pursued but stopped the pursuit due to safety reasons.

A police report said a 53-year-old man was the victim of a wire fraud. According to the report, an unknown suspect hacked the victim’s Microsoft account, got credit card information, and then ordered more than $1,200 worth of Tesla products using that stolen information. The victim reported the incident on July 30.

Avondale Barracks

Police said they charged Luis F. Rodriguez Mendez, 23, of Kennett Square with DUI following a one-car in Pocopson Township. The accident happened Sept. 1 at 6:52 a.m. on W. Street Road. According to the report, the driver lost control of the 2024 Volkswagen he was driving while trying to negotiate a left-hand curve and crashed into a utility pole.

A 37-year-old woman from West Grove was arrested for shoplifting at the East Marlborough Township Walmart on Aug. 27. The suspect was not identified in the report nor did the report include what was taken, only that the value of the merchandise was $175.

Police arrested two motorcyclists Dylan Rappucci, 26, and Dylan Thompson, 25, both from West Chester. The incident happened at 10:22 p.m. on Aug. 24. According to the report, troopers observed two motorcycles committing multiple traffic violations on Baltimore Pike between Lenape Road and School House Road, East Marlborough Township. A traffic stop was attempted but both operators fled. After a brief pursuit, one motorcycle crashed at a low speed and the operator was taken into custody. The second operator was identified and confessed to having fled from the police. Rappucci was also charged with. DUI, police said.

Police arrested a 38-year-old woman (not identified in the report) from West Grove for drug possession on Aug. 8 following a traffic stop on Route 1 near Ponds Edge Drive in Pennsbury Township at 7:03 p.m. The stop was for traffic violations. A search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine, THC, and related drug paraphernalia, the report said.

Margaret M. Hoey, 84, was cited for her involvement in a two-car crash in West Marlborough Township on Aug. 2, police said. The accident happened on Hood Road near N. Chatham at 8:48 a.m. Police said Hoey failed to stop at the stop sign and failed to clear the intersection and pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle.
