Jazz fest at Kennett Library

April is Jazz Appreciation Month, and the Kennett Library is celebrating with an art show featuring paintings by jazz trumpeter Al Moretti.

Music and art come together at the Kennett Library on April 4.

Visitors can immerse themselves in what a library press release calls a visual feast of original artwork depicting iconic Jazz legends such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jaco Pastorius, Milton Nascimento, Esperanza Spaulding, Maynard Ferguson, Art Tatum, Pat Martino, Cootie Williams, and Ira Sullivan. Moretti's paintings capture the soul and essence of those musical pioneers, bringing their contributions to life on canvas.

According to the library’s Executive Director Chris Manna, “Libraries have a long history of providing a platform of expression through the written word. Our new library now offers a visual platform. Hosting Al Moretti’s exhibit is a testament to the beauty of visual expression on our art gallery wall.”

The art show opens Thursday, April 4 with an artist talk and performance by Moretti in the library’s art gallery from 5-7 p.m.

Moretti said of the union of his two arts: “One way in which I bridge the gap between sound and color is by associating each hue with a tonal equivalent. For instance, the color yellow evokes the tone B♭, which is particularly meaningful to me as a B♭ trumpet player. By leveraging the language, theory, form, and emotional depth of music, I'm able to break free from familiar patterns and take my art in new and exciting directions.”

Samples of Moretti’s artwork can be found here.
