New tip line for PSP

The Pennsylvania State Police now has a new way for the public to share information related to active investigations, cold cases, the apprehension of wanted persons, or locating missing persons. It’s called PSP Tips.

“Assistance from the public is often vital to solving crimes or locating missing or wanted individuals,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations. “The social media platforms, the toll-free number, and the online tip form are all easy ways to send us information that may solve a case or get a dangerous individual off the streets.”

(Bivens led the manhunt for convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante who escaped from the Chester County Prison last August. Cavalcante was captured two weeks later.)

PSP Tips includes information on nearly 100 cold case homicides, missing persons, and other unsolved crimes. New cases will be added frequently.

Featured cases include the 1973 homicide of an 8-year-old girl in Greene County, the unsolved killing in 1977 of a high school junior in Blair County, the 1981 disappearance of a Lackawanna County teenager, and the search for the children of Susan Reinert, a Montgomery County teacher found murdered near Harrisburg in 1979.

Tips could provide investigators with a long-awaited breakthrough that will finally bring closure and justice for the victim’s families.

All information submitted to PSP Tips can be provided anonymously if desired., while all cases in which PSP requests public assistance can be viewed at the following social media sites: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PSPTips, and X formerly Twitter):https://twitter.com/PSP_TIPS

Each site provides a toll-free phone number, 1-800-4PA-TIPS (1-800-472-8477), and a link to an online tip submission form, https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107.

CF supports land purchase

Chadds Ford Township supervisors Wednesday night voted to contribute $250,000 to the North American Land Trust’s grant application to buy 1597 Baltimore Pike. Supervisors’ Chairman Samantha Reiner said the money would come from Open Space funds, something the Open Space Committee approved.

The property is the former home of N.C. Wyeth and, most recently, the Camp family. The Camps sold the property to developer Wayne Megill last year and now NALT wants to buy the 17-acre property from him.

Reiner said the property would be under a conservation easement held by the township, adding that NALT would operate the site much like it does Brinton Run Preserve. The land trust’s goal, she added, is preserving the site, adding trails that would connect with Walkable Chadds Ford, and provide a habitat for pollinators.

In addition to the money, the township will also write a letter of support that NALT will use in its grant application with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Township Manager Lacey Faber said NALT must pay a $500,000 non-refundable deposit with that application. The American Battlefield Trust would put up an equal amount, but they would forfeit the deposit if NALT fails to acquire the property. The asking price is $3.76 million, Faber added.

The anticipated date of acquisition is sometime in 2025.
