It’s T-minus two weeks and counting down from there. The Great Pumpkin Carve returns to the pumpkin patch at the Chadds Ford Historical Society on Thursday, Oct. 19, and runs through Saturday, Oct. 21. It’s an annual three-day Chadds Ford tradition where more than 70 giant pumpkins are carved and lit by local artists on Thursday and will be lit and displayed on Friday and Saturday. All three nights enjoy a Haunted Trail, raffle prizes, local artisans selling their handmade goods in the wooded grove, and live music from Kenny Thompson & Friends. Food, local craft beer, and wine are available for purchase. Admission is $15 for adults 18 and older and $5 for kids aged 7-17. Tickets are purchased at the gate, with no advanced sales.

Concord Township will hold its annual recycling day and tree giveaway on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8-10 a.m. at the Public Works Garage, 675 Smithbridge Road.

The Harlem Renaissance predates the Globetrotters by five years.

It's all about the Harlem Renaissance, considered the greatest basketball team no one has heard of. Delaware Theatre Company’s second production of the season is the powerful and inspiring play Kings of Harlem written and directed by Layon Gray. On stage from Oct. 25 to Nov. 12, Kings of Harlem celebrates the 100th anniversary of the first Black-owned, all-Black professional basketball team in history. The story follows seven men who overcame adversity to win more than 2,000 games. Tickets can be purchased by calling DTC's Box Office at 302-594-1100 or online at delawaretheatre.org.

The Delaware County Symphony opens the season with a special concert to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The concert features music inspired by Spain. Sonidos de España Symphony Concert is 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Go here for ticket information.

Risa Hokamura performs with the Kennett Symphony for its first concert of the season, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Longwood Gardens.

The Kennett Symphony opens its 83rd season with Stories of Love and Nature on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Longwood Gardens’ Exhibition Hall. Conducted by Music Director Michael Hall with soloist Risa Hokamura, the season-opening concert is the first of six diverse concert offerings in the exhilarating 2023-2024 season. Kids of all ages can learn about natural pigments at Hagley Museum’s next Science Saturday on Oct. 14.

The next Science Saturday at Hagley Museum is Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Discover the plethora of pigments that can come from natural sources and use them to create a piece of art. Visitors of all ages are invited to discover solutions to science and engineering challenges. This is a drop-in activity, feel free to join the fun at any time. Activities are included in admission and are free for Hagley members.
