U-CF and Kennett schools open

All schools in both the Unionville-Chadds Ford and Kennett Consolidated school districts are open today, Friday, Sept. 8. Messages from both school district superintendents report the same, that there will be increased police presence in the areas of schools as authorities continue their hunt for the escaped convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante.

U-CF Superintendent John Sanville said in an early morning e-mail, “Chadds Ford Elementary, Pocopson Elementary, and Hillendale Elementary will operate in secure status - all other schools will be in regular status. All after-school activities may resume. Families, students, and staff can expect to see a continued presence of law enforcement at our schools throughout the day.”

KCSD Superintendent D. Dusty Blakey said in a website message: “Throughout the night, we have remained in contact with the Pennsylvania State Police, Chester County Emergency Services, and the District Attorney’s office. Our law enforcement partners informed us that the search situation has evolved and now may encompass part of our district’s northern boundaries, with none of our schools located in the perimeter. As such, we will be limiting transportation to those students outside of the new search perimeter. Students outside of the search perimeter will be picked up at the regularly scheduled time.”
