DA: ‘We will find him’

During a press conference regarding the escaped convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante, Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said, “We will find him.”

Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison on Thursday, Aug. 31, a week after he was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend.

He was seen on a home security video in the area of Lenape Road and Waterglen Drive at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. About an hour earlier, there was a report of an attempted burglary in the area. Law enforcement officials, county, state, and federal still have parts of Routes 52 and 926 closed off to through traffic and are continuing to remind people in Pocopson to stay inside with their doors — house and car — locked and to stay inside.

It isn’t yet known how Cavalcante escaped, but Ryan said there’s no evidence that he was aided. If anyone did or is helping Cavalcante, Ryan said they, too, will be prosecuted.

Drones, helicopters, and dogs are involved in the search for Cavalcante, 34, who was convicted of murdering Deborah Brandao in 2021. He stabbed her more than 30 times in front of her two children who were 4 and 7 years old at the time. He is considered dangerous and is wanted in connection with a 2017 murder in Brazil.

Ryan has said of Cavalcante, “His depravity knows no bounds.”

He is 5 feet tall, weighs about 120 pounds, and has dark hair.

Chester County commissioners and U.S. Marshals are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Cavalcante.
