Williams to prosecute Kasner

State Rep. Craig Williams, R-160, has been appointed by the state Speaker of the House of Representatives Bryan Cutler to serve as a manager for the impeachment trial of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.

State Rep. Craig Williams is appointed as prosecutor in the state’s impeachment of Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner.

“It is an honor to be chosen by the speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to present the evidence and prosecute the articles of impeachment against the Philadelphia district attorney,” Williams said in a press release. “I will use my background as a federal and military prosecutor to carry out the Pennsylvania Constitution’s mandate that will soon go before the Pennsylvania Senate.”

Williams attended law school while in the Marines and became the chief prosecutor for the largest base in the Marine Corps and head prosecutor for the Marine Corps Reserve. He also served as deputy legal counsel to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff with an emphasis on ethics and detainee issues in federal court. He later served as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice in the District of Colorado (Denver) and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) and as a prosecutor for the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from Duke University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law, and a Master of Laws in Jurisprudence Virtue Ethics and Criminal Law from the Columbia University School of Law.

The House last week passed House Resolution 240 to impeach Krasner for misbehavior in office. The process now advances to the Pennsylvania Senate for the impeachment trial and for a final decision regarding removal from office.

The House speaker is required to appoint a committee of three members, two from the majority party and one from the minority party, to exhibit the articles of impeachment to the Senate and manage the trial on behalf of the House. Cutler also named Reps. Tim Bonner (R-Mercer/Butler) and Jared Solomon (D-Philadelphia) to serve as managers.

Winterthur, Kennedy and gingerbread

A 6-foot-long gingerbread house now on display at Winterthur represents the relationship former First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy had with H.F. du Pont who worked on a restoration project for the White House interiors while John Kennedy was in office.

Winterthur’s Yuletide Tour this year includes a 6-foot-long edible gingerbread house made to coincide with Winterthur’s Jackie Kennedy exhibit — Jacqueline Kennedy and H.F. du Pont: From Winterthur to the White House.

The house, commissioned by Winterthur is a replica of the du Pont family house and follows the Kenney tradition of having gingerbread at the White House during the Kennedy administration, according to Jason Brudereck, Winterthur’s public relations manager and communications director.

The relationship between Kennedy and H.F. du Pont goes back to 1961 when the then-First Lady appointed du Pont to lead the restoration of the White House interiors.

Bredenbeck’s Bakery, of Philadelphia, made the gingerbread house using more than 150 pounds of cake and icing, and took more than 140 hours to make.

“We were so lucky to be asked to be a part of this. What an honor. We kind of agonized over it, but then also found the joy in trying to celebrate Christmas and the beauty of this building, said chief baker Diana Anello.

It’s also the largest piece the bakery has ever made in-house, she added, and said it would likely still be edible when the exhibit closes on Jan. 8.

Brudereck said there are several new parts to this year’s Yuletide Tour beyond the gingerbread house. Also new is a toy train display that’s open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and Wednesday evenings in December from 5-8 p.m.

The entire Winterthur Yuletide Exhibit runs through Jan. 8.

Chipper

Chipper

Chipper is a 9-year-old mixed breed fellow looking for his furever home. Recently on break from the shelter with one of our volunteers, they said Chipper was a wonderful houseguest. He’s well-mannered, 100 percent house-trained, and sleeps all night. He walks nicely on the leash and welcomes everyone with a wag, and just wants to be with people. Sound like a great dog? We think so and would love for your family and any other dogs to meet him before you bring him home. Chipper’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored.
