Letter: Thank you CFL

As both a Chadds Ford resident and a business owner in Washington State, I rely on Chadds Ford Live as my most important source of local news. No matter where I am, your online format keeps me “in the know” on the local arts scene and its international ramifications, historic preservation and conservation, tourist attractions and events, school activities, business, and local governance. Conversely, the online news in eastern Washington state is mostly police reports. You illuminate the community. They make me afraid to be part of theirs.

As we deal with the climate problems, I’m content that your news will continue to flow because you are online. I hope the international need to achieve carbon zero will eliminate all the junk mail in our mailboxes.

Meanwhile, I applaud you for your advertising cubes on the front page. If these advertisers were mailing a promotion, they would be scooped up and trashed as junk, but on your front page, the cubes are a quick summary of which local businesses really care about our community and will long-term support it….and, therefore, will get my support.

What a big difference Chadds Ford Live makes to the enjoyment level of Chadds Ford. Thank you.

Road Report for Aug. 13 through Aug. 19

Road Report for Aug. 13 through Aug. 19

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of Aug. 13 through Aug. 19. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Motorists should expect overnight road restrictions on Brinton Lake Road, Webb Road, Oakland Road, Ring Road, Ridge Road, Pyle Road, and Dilworthtown Road in Chadds Ford and Concord townships for crack sealing operations from Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 19.

From Aug. 15 through Aug. 19, motorists should expect overnight lane closures in both directions along Route 1, from Fairville Road to Route 202 for guide rail installation.

Motorists should expect daytime lane closures on Route 162 (Embreeville Road) between Route 82 and Scott Road in East Marlborough Township for utility construction. The work is expected to last through Friday, Oct. 28.

Through December, utility renewal will cause daytime lane restrictions on Route 52 between Fairville Road and Wedgewood Drive in Pennsbury Township.

Motorists should expect lane restrictions with a detour for trucks on Route 162 at its intersection with Route 82 in Newlin Township because of bridge repair. There is currently no date for completion.

The Embreeville Road Bridge over the West Branch over the Brandywine Creek in Newlin Township remains closed because of the Sept. 1 flooding. The closure remains listed as indefinite.
