Blizzard conditions possible

The entire northeast corridor is in the path of a winter nor’easter tonight and into tomorrow morning. Blizzard conditions — with heavy snow and strong winds – are possible, weather services are reporting. Gusts could reach 50 mph. Snow accumulation of 4-7 inches is expected in Philadelphia’s western suburbs.

Road Report for Jan. 29 to Feb. 4

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if they are traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Utility installation will cause daytime lane closures on Gay Street, between Church and Darlington streets in West Chester through Jan. 31. Utility installation will cause lane closures on Market Street between Fulton and 8thstreets in West Chester through Jan.30.

Storm damage also closed Embreeville Road Bridge over the West Branch over the Brandywine Creek in Newlin Township. That closure is listed as indefinite.

Academic Achievement Jan. 28

Charles Bukovacz, of Chadds Ford, was named to Susquehanna University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2021 semester. Bukovacz, who is majoring in creative writing, is a member of the Class of 2023. The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or higher out of a possible 4.0 for the semester.

Katharine A. Murray, of Chadds Ford, was named to The University of Scranton’s Dean’s List for the 2021 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours during the semester to make the Dean’s List. Murray is a senior human resources studies major in the University’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.

Philip Gow, of Chadds Ford, has been named to the Dean’s List at Hamilton College for the 2021 fall semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above. Gow, a senior majoring in government, is a graduate of The Lawrenceville School.
