Road Report May 15 to May 21

Baltimore Pike in New Garden Township, between Union Street and Chambers Road, will be closed from May 24 into September.

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of May 15 to May 21. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if they are traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, May 24, on a project to replace the culvert carrying Baltimore Pike over Red Clay Creek in New Garden Township. Baltimore Pike will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Union Street and Chambers Road through the completion of the project scheduled for early September. Baltimore Pike motorists will be directed to use Cypress Avenue/Baltimore Pike, U.S 1 (Kennett-Oxford Bypass) North, Greenwood Road all turns, U.S. 1 (Kennett-Oxford Bypass) South, Route 41 interchange, and Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike/Pennsylvania Avenue) South. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Poll replacement will continue to cause lane closures on Route 926 (Street Road), between Mill and Wollaston roads in West Marlborough Township, through June 11.

Motorists should expect flagging along Route 41 (Gap Newport Road), between Sunny Dell and Starr roads in New Garden Township for gas installation work through May 21,

Route 3, Gay Street, in West Chester, will be closed during daytime hours due to utility work from through July 1. Utility work will also force daytime closure of Gay Street, between Walnut and Church streets in West Chester, through July 1. Detours will be posted.

Academic Achievement May 14

Academic Achievement Eric Renzetti, of Chadds Ford, graduated from The University of Tampa on Saturday, May 8 with a Bachelor of Science – B.S. Degree in marine science-biology. The commencement ceremony was virtual.

Dakota Raymond, of Chadds Ford, was named to the fall 2020 Dean’s List at the University of the Sciences. Selection for this award is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a “C” and attaining an academic average of at least 3.4 for courses taken in the fall of 2020.
