The HBO series "Mare of Easttown," starring Kate Winslet and with some segments shot in Chadds Ford, debuts this Sunday.

The HBO series film “Mare of Easttown” — shot partly in Chadds Ford — debuts this Sunday, April 18. The seven-part limited series explores the dark side of a close community and an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present. Kate Winslet stars as Mare Sheehan, a small-town detective who investigates a local murder as life crumbles around her. Here is the trailer.

Wells School of Music Opera students at West Chester University are up for a new challenge this year – performing a drive-in opera. On Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1 at 8:30 p.m., Wells School of Music’s Opera Theatre presents Gaetano Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love (L’elixir d’amore.) The performance will be staged in the parking lot of the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre of the Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. Tickets are free, but reservations are required due to the limited number of parking spaces available. From famous legends to embellished truths to outright fabrications, the book “Death by Petticoat” debunked myths from American history in witty, entertaining narratives that shed light on the real truth behind the past. Author Mary Miley Theobald will join Chester County History Center's Speaker Series on April 21 to discuss some of the myths contained in her book and explore new myths she has uncovered since its publication. Tickets are now on sale for outdoor performances at Delaware Theatre Co. A dozen productions are on tap for the spring and summer seasons. Performances will be held in the parking lot at the theater company, located at 200 Water Street in Wilmington, just feet from the Riverfront.
