Ridge Road closed

A tree falling onto a power line causes closure of Ridge Road. between Ring and High Ridge rods, in Chadds Ford Township.

Ridge Road in Chadds Ford Township is closed between Ring and High Ridge roads after a tree fell onto a power line just east of High Ridge. Homes on High Ridge Road are without power.

Residents said PECO told them that crews wouldn’t be able to clear the street or restore power until Sunday, June 7. PECO has not yet confirmed any timetable.

The tree came down Wednesday night, June 3, and some of the exposed wires were still buzzing and arcing Thursday morning.

UPDATE:

Greg Smore, a PECO spokesman said crews are still assessing damage and making repairs around the Southeastern Pennsylvania area, including Delaware and Chester counties, adding that anticipated times for power restoration will be updated. Power has been restored to 382,000 properties since yesterday’s storm, but 180,000 customers are still without power. Included in that figure are 45,000 PECO customers in Chester County. Smore added that it’s possible that power will be back up nd Ridge Road reopend by tomorrow night.

Around Town June 4

Anthony Young, who, with his wife Katie, owns Hank’s Place, waters the landscaping while the restaurant’s interior gets cleaned. Young said he’s been in touch with Chadds Ford Township regarding the proposed special outdoor dining ordinance. Township supervisors could be voting on Saturday morning in a special meeting conducted via Zoom.

The Chester County Historical Society is looking to grow its membership. All new members will receive a 15-month membership and an invitation to the Members-Only explorations of the new four-gallery exhibit, Becoming Chester County and the Visible Storage galleries. For the first time in more than 20 years, all second-floor galleries and two first-floor galleries will be completely reinstalled with dynamic new exhibits that tell our county’s dramatic stories. Delaware County Health Department, along with state Rep. Stephen Barrar and state Sen. Tom Killion, will be holding a drive-thru food drive this Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Glen Mills School, 185 Glen Mills Road. This is a contactless food drive. Event personnel will take the food donations from the trunks of cars and send it to the county pantries being served. Among the food items needed are dry food goods, peanut butter canned meats, tuna, stews. Nonfood items wanted include paper towels, toilet paper, bar, dish and laundry soaps, diapers, baby wipes and hand sanitizer.

Darlington Arts Center is offering a summer Guitar Class for Kids scheduled for June 16-July 16. Classes are for kids ages 8-12 and will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. for 10 lessons for five weeks. The cost is $175.
