School budget set for vote

There was no added discussion on the matter, but Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board directors were given a brief review of the 2019-2020 school year budget they’ll be voting on next week.

District Business Manager Robert Cochran reviewed the budget proposal for the board, saying there were only minor modifications from the proposed final budget the board voted for last month.

Revenue and expenses balance at $90.26 million. Chester County property taxes would be 29.16 mills, which translates to $29.16 for every $1,000 of assessed property value. In Chadds Ford, the only Delaware County township in the district, the millage rate would be 25.71 mills — or $25.71 per every $1,000 of assessed value.

By comparison, the millage rates for the 2018-2019 school year were 28.51 mills for Chester County property owners and 25.15 mills in Delaware County.

Tax notices will go out on July 1, 2019, and will be considered delinquent if not paid by Oct. 31, 2019. However, if paid by Aug. 31, there would be a 2 percent discount. If paid late, though, there would be a penalty of 7.5 percent.

The board is to vote on the final budget at its June 17 meeting, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the district office.
