Anne Irwin Hicks, formerly of Kennett Square

Anne Irwin Hicks, 92, formerly of Kennett Square, died Thursday, Dec. 13, after suffering from a major stroke. She was without pain and surrounded by loving family.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1926, in Chadds Ford. Anne Hicks owned Meadow Springs Farm in Kennett Square with her late husband, John L. Hicks from the 1940s to 2000. The family dairy farm later became a well known B&B, where guests came from around the world.

Anne touched the lives of many with her generosity and kindness.

Her family and friends were her pride and joy. Anne raised five children on the farm: three sons, John Langley Hicks (deceased), Robert Chandler Hicks (Iowa) and William Evans Hicks (Kennett Square); two daughters, Sissy Phyllis Hicks (Vermont) and Deborah Hicks Axelrod (deceased); brothers, Robert Irwin (PA), Chandler Irwin (deceased), and Andrew Irwin (deceased); nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Unionville Presbyterian Church, 815 Wollaston Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348, with hors-d'oeuvres and refreshments to follow at the Hicks Bros. shop, 140 East Doe Run Road, Kennett Square.
