Pennsylvania State Police

• A 25-year-old woman from New Jersey was arrested for retail theft in East Marlborough Township, then state police found drugs in her backpack and an arrest warrant for her in New Jersey. Police identified the suspect as Amber Marie Ogden. A report said Ogden tried stealing $78 worth of merchandise from the Walmart in East Marlborough. She was detained by the store’s loss prevention officer until state police arrived to investigate. The incident happened at 9:49 p.m. on July 30.

• Kennett Township resident Ryan Stromberg, 25, was arrested for drug possession on July 1 after overdosing in the parking lot of the Hilton Gardens in East Marlborough Township, a police report said.
•State police from the Avondale barracks are investigating an attempted theft in Pennsbury Township. According to the report, a black male driving a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with New Jersey registration plates on the rear and a Virginia registration on the front tried to break into the vehicle of a 25-year-old woman from Glen Mills. The incident happened at 1:54 p.m. on July 29 at 882 Baltimore Pike in Pennsbury.

• An unidentified woman was stopped for a traffic violation in New Garden Township on Aug. 1 and wound up facing drug charges, according to a police report. Police said the vehicle was stopped on West Cypress, east of Scarlet Road at 8:36 p.m. Police said they smelled marijuana when they approached the car and then found a controlled substance.

• Someone removed a mailbox from its post on Conestoga Court in Pennsbury Township sometime during the overnight hours of Aug. 13 and 14. Anyone with information is asked to call the state police at  610-268-2022.

Southern Chester County Regional Police 

• A heroin overdose in May led to the arrest of a Landenberg man in July, a recent police press release said. Police charged John E. Gift, 56, with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, and with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, after he was found to be growing marijuana and in possession of heroin. The original incident occurred May 24 in the 200 block of Landenberg Road, in New Garden Township. Police had been summoned to the scene for a suspected drug overdose. After police had revived the patient with Narcan, they were advised by Gift that he had removed heroin and related paraphernalia from the patient’s room and concealed them prior to the arrival of police. Police said evidence was subsequently recovered, as were several bags of marijuana observed in plain view inside the residence. A packet of suspected heroin was also found to be protruding from Gift’s front pocket and was seized. While officers were speaking with Gift outside, police said, he directed their attention to a picnic table where 80 small marijuana plants were being grown in Styrofoam cups. A search warrant was obtained and was executed at the residence later that day. Gift was taken into custody on July 23 and was arraigned, after which he was released on $50,000.00 unsecured bail, pending court proceedings.

• Police said Terence A. Battin, 22, of Wilmington, was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, and with a traffic offense, after he was found to be in possession of approx. one pound of marijuana and related drug paraphernalia. The incident occurred on July 24 in the 1300 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township. The 2005 Jaguar that Battin was driving was stopped for an equipment violation and police were met with the strong odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle, a report said.

• Three male juveniles, ages 14-16 years old, from Kennett Square and Oxford were charged with terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, and/or with criminal conspiracy to commit these offenses, following an incident, in which they are alleged to have set off a smoke bomb type firework device, inside of a grocery store. They then lit fireworks off in front of the store entrance. The incident happened July 19 at 5:15 p.m., at the Giant Food Store, in New Garden Township.

• Police said Noel Ellian Trillo, 18, of Newark, was arrested and charged with DUI and a related traffic offense, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act after the 2012 Volkswagen he was driving became involved in a single vehicle crash. The incident occurred on July 22 at 12:31 a.m., in the area of Laurel Heights Road and Penn Green Road, in New Garden Township.

• Zachary D. Orendorf, 20, of Hockessin, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act, after the 2015 Jeep he was driving was stopped for crossing the yellow center lines on multiple occasions, while traveling at a high rate of speed through a residential community, according to a police report. The incident occurred on July 21 at 2:27 a.m., in the 400 block of Buttonwood Road, in New Garden Township.

• A police report said Aidan J. Gartner, 23, of Kennett Square, was arrested on July 17 and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, following a traffic stop for a stop sign violation and for failing to stay within his lane of travel. Police made the stop at 1 a.m., in the 600 block of Hillendale Road, in New Garden Township. Police said they observed indicators suggesting intoxication and field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and was given an opportunity to submit to a chemical test of his breath, but he refused.

• Police said Manuel Bedolla, 24, of West Grove, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and with public drunkenness on July 19 after police were dispatched to a business on Scarlet Road, in New Garden Township, for the report of a male who was punching walls, books, and shelves, and was running a shopping cart into the walls. This disturbance caused store employees to ask customers to leave until police arrived.
