A new partnership between the Brandywine Conservancy and LandArt Events is bringing together area artists, local farmers and farmers markets on a mission to raise awareness — through art — of the incredible open space and sustainable agriculture resources in our region. Working over a 10-month period, a combination of juried and invited artists are painting works en plein air—“in the open air”—on private lands permanently protected by the Conservancy, with a culminating art show and farm-to-table small plate tasting on Sept. 29.

Two “Community Days” will be offered to the public for an opportunity to view the artists at work. On Saturday, July 14, artists will be painting throughout Bryn Mawr Farmers Market to capture the magnificent fruits of labor from local farmers and producers, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Sunday, July 15, the artists head to Miller Farm in Downingtown, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists will be painting throughout the property, which is owned and managed by the Conservancy and home to Two Gander Farm — operated by Trey and Deirdre Flemming, now in its ninth year of operation. Sketching kits will be available with a donation for those interested in trying out plein air painting at either Community Day event.

The entire project will conclude with “Palette to Palate,” an art show and locally-grown food celebration on Sept. 29, at the Miller Farm. The event will feature over 300 original works of art by more than 50 artists capturing the incredible beauty of the permanently protected land stewarded by the Conservancy. The event will also include local chefs creating delicious small plates inspired by ingredients from area farms and farmers markets.  A portion of all proceeds will support the conservation efforts of the Brandywine Conservancy. Pre-sale tickets are $75 and will increase to $100 after Sept. 1; children under six are free. To purchase tickets, please visit www.brandywine.org/events.

Funding for Palette to Palate is provided in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.  Additionally, a percentage of each painting sold will be donated directly to the Brandywine Conservancy in support of its open space and clean water efforts.
