Police Log Aug. 9: DUIs, accidents, thefts

State Police

• State police reported no injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Route 1 near Pennsbury Way on Aug. 3. There was no mention in the report of either driver being charged. According to police one driver was turning left onto Pennsbury Way from the northbound lane of Route 1, while another vehicle, that had been in the left turn lane of southbound Route, changed back to go straight and struck the other vehicle as it was turning left.

• A traffic stop in Kennett Township led to a 21-year-old from Chadds Ford being taken into custody on DUI charges. State police said Lorenzo Rosarlo Ramunno was stopped at 9:37 p.m. at Hamorton Cutoff Road near Route 1 on July 16. No reason for the traffic stop was given in the police report.

• Police reported finding tire tracks leading from eastbound Street Road, crossing into the westbound lane, exiting the road completely and leading up an embankment to a tree that had been struck. A second set of tire tracks indicate the vehicle was driven back down to the road. The incident happened in Pennsbury Township on July 24.

Southern Chester County Regional Police

• Vera B. Cruz, 39, of Avondale was arrested July 26 for retail theft, according to Southern Chester County Regional Police. Cruz is alleged to have taken $34.82 worth of items from the Dollar General store, located at 345 Scarlett Road, in New Garden Township. She was processed and released.

• Police said Christian T. Montgomery, 42, of Avondale, was arrested and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, following a traffic stop for erratic driving on July 24. At approximately 7:05 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Newark Road and Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township for a Mercedes Benz being operated erratically. Police located the vehicle and observed it swerve out of its lane of travel, a report said.

• Brian V. Nolan, 40, of Cochranville, was arrested July 23 and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses. At approximately 7 p.m., police responded to a call of a possible intoxicated operator on Penn Green Road, south of Route 41, in New Garden Township. Police arrived in the area to find a pickup truck, towing a low-boy trailer, stopped on Penn Green Road, about five feet into the intersection, with cars going around it. When police approached the vehicle, a report said, Nolan exhibited signs of intoxication. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. He submitted to a chemical test of his breath, the result of which was a blood alcohol level of 0.23 percent. He was processed and released pending issuance of a summons.

• Miguel Castaneda, 24, of Wilmington, was arrested July 29 and charged with DUI and related traffic offenses, following a one-vehicle accident, according to police. At approximately 11:54 p.m. on July 28, police were dispatched to the area of Hillendale Road and Scarlett Road, in New Garden Township for a report of a vehicle that ran off the roadway. The report said Castaneda exhibited signs of intoxication and further investigation led police to believe that Castaneda was the driver and he was taken into custody.
