John Robert Machamer Jr. of Chadds Ford

John Robert Machamer Jr., better known as “Mock the Painter,” 66, of Chadds Ford, died Monday, July 24.

Best known for his quick wit and personality, Johnny enjoyed telling stories and cracking jokes. Always the entertainer, Johnny enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friends at the Upland AC.

Originally, a union painter with local 921, John continued to work into his retirement. Over the last few months, John was constantly reassuring friends that he would be back to work soon.

However, the biggest part of John’s life was his family. John spent most of him time with his devoted wife of 47 years, Teresa Machamer. On Friday nights, you could find them out to diner followed by dancing. John was especially proud of the family he and Teresa built together. John was always available to help or visit and enjoyed seeing his grandchildren playing sports or enjoying activities. John’s life will continue to be celebrated by his wife.

In addition to Teresa, he is survived by three children, Jodi (Zarrilli) Machamer, Terri Machamer and Krista Bolmer and her husband Michael Bolmer; his seven grandchildren Matthew Zarrilli, Michael Bolmer,Jr, John (Jack) Zarrilli, John (Charlie) Machamer, Sara Zarrilli, Lilyanna Bolmer and Magnolia Bolmer. Johnny maintained a close relationship with his sibling, Tommy “Chico” Carrafa, Ronny Carrafa and Jude Morris.

Although Mock resided in Chadds Ford, he always considered Upland home. You are invited to visit with his family and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Upland Baptist Church, 325 Main St, Brookhaven, PA 19015.  A memorial service celebrating his life will follow. Concord Township said that Cheyney Road northbound at Route 1 is closed today. On Wednesday evening, July 26, there was a water main break near the intersection of Route 1 and Cheyney Road. As a result, Cheyney Road, northbound at Route 1, will be closed all day today so that Chester Water Authority crews can make necessary repairs. The jug handle road and the Concord Village shopping center are accessible.

Op/Ed: Chadds Ford as defendant unfair

This is very concerning. A big developer and their experienced and costly legal team working for months and years is not a fair match to a township and community who are trying their best to protect their resident’s health, safety and wellness from a plan that was proposed and put together well over ten years ago. How could a hearing being held in 30 days be considered fair? Does that seem like enough time to fairly represent why our township does not think that this is in the best interest of anyone who uses our roads? Why would anyone think that Chadds Ford would not be an integral party necessary to sign off on this. A big developer and their legal team’s objective is not necessarily to do what is the best interest of Chadds Ford Township and appreciate our Chadds Ford Supervisor’s commitment to protecting our community and all who travel through. I sincerely hope that the Judge will give an opportunity for our community members to share how they think and feel on this massive shopping center and gigantic road expansion bound to change everything about our health and safety. Please join your neighbors on Chadds Ford Neighbors Against More Traffic and consider joining the 350 other neighbors who have signed the change.org petition and given their heartfelt sentiments against this dated, dangerous and unwanted shopping center and huge Ridge Road six lane expansion.

Adopt-a-Pet July 27

Adopt-a-Pet July 27

The following animals are ready to be adopted from the Brandywine Valley SPCA in West Chester.

Captain Beefheart

Captain Beefheart

She’s named after a rock star, so it’s no surprise that Captain Beefheart is such a cool cat. Captain Beefheart is a 7-year-old lovebug who enjoys sitting out in her bed, snuggling down and watching the world go by. She’s very gentle and loving and could fit well in most any home with adults and small kids. Captain Beefheart came to us when her owner passed away, so she misses having a human companion. Captain Beefheart’s adoption fee is “name your price” through Sunday, July 30.

Bandit

Bandit

Bandit is a 9-year-old puppy at heart. He’s great on walks, loves to play fetch, is very sweet towards people, and enjoys the company of calmer dogs. Bandit is both house-trained and crate-trained. Bandit’s adoption fee is “name your price” through Sunday, July 30.

For more information, go to www.bvspca.org or phone 610-692-6113.
