Fundraiser to support equestrian therapy

Reins of Life, established in 1993 as a successful therapeutic horseback riding program for children and young adults with special needs, is holding its 14th annual benefit.

The Mane Event at Oberod, being held on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., will help provide therapeutic horseback riding for children and young adults with disabilities and special needs, raising funds for the care of its therapy horses and the Reins of Life children’s Scholarship Fund, according to a Reins of Life press release.

The scholarship fund helps meet families’ financial needs while the therapeutic riding meets the physical, social and emotional needs of the children and young adults who participate. Without the scholarship, some children would not be able to benefit this valuable therapy, the release said.

In addition, the nonprofit is raising money for the construction of a barn addition to house a handicapped-accessible restroom for program participants.

The event at the Oberod estate in Centerville, De., promises an evening of fun, food, and music by harpist Janet Witmer. Complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres and dessert buffets provided by Janssen’s Market are included in the ticket price. A live and silent auction will be part of the festivities.

Tickets are $75 per person/pre-registered, $85 at the door, or $130 per pre-registered couple, $140 at the door. For more information, contact Judy Hendrickson at Reins of Life, 610-274-3300 or reinsoflife@verizon.net or visit www.reinsoflife.com.
