At Yappy Hour, family fun – fur sure

A family-friendly evening of fur, food, fun and camaraderie awaits visitors to LaMancha Animal Rescue on Friday, June 19, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 9.03.02 PMThe facility’s annual open house – affectionately dubbed “Yappy Hour” – will feature dog and cat meet-and-greets, pony and La Mancha Great Pyrenees painting, face painting, a photo booth, a silent auction, a table with lots of handmade crafts and LaMancha swag, Precious Paw Prints jewelry, food and Starbucks drinks, a LaMancha press release said.

Please leave your dogs at home as our adoptable dogs will be out and about. Outdoor clothing and comfortable shoes for walking are recommended.

Special guests will include representatives of Natural Lands Trust, the region's foremost conservation organization, which has 41 nature preserves spanning more than 21,000 acres of forests and fields in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Members of the Chester County Animal Response Team will be on hand to tell you how you can get involved and help animals during emergency incidents and natural disasters.

Animal expert Jackie Rettberg will help pet owners improve communication with their animals, such as how to let them know about upcoming events like moves or vacations. Bring a photograph of your pet and spend time with Rettberg for greater insight.

Children’s book author and illustrator, Adam Westgate, will be giving a reading of his book Cody The Shepherd’s Strasburg Rail Road Ride in the horse ring at 5 p.m.

In addition to tables of animal-related items and jewelry made by LaMancha’s talented volunteers, they will be on hand to answer any questions about rescuing, adopting or volunteering.

This year, visitors can also purchase kennel sponsorships for a year, a new opportunity to honor a loved one or pet while helping to support animals in need For $50, a plaque bearing your chosen message will be placed on the door of the kennel run you have sponsored for the year.

Activities and refreshments will be cash only.  Credit cards will be accepted for any purchases of goods from Home Made with Love and for silent auction winners.  Checks will be accepted for silent auction, kennel sponsorships and handmade items.
