Radnor Hunt races sell out

84TH RADNOR HUNT RACES THRILL SELL-OUT CROWD OF MORE THAN 18,000

On Saturday May 17, under brilliant blue skies, more than 18,000 spectators enjoyed a day filled with exciting steeplechase races, an elaborate tailgate picnic competition, and family tailgating displays. The day was a huge success with many subscriber areas selling out early, and exciting races with full fields and close finishes.

Many celebrated the day in corporate tents with BNY Mellon Wealth Management as presenting sponsor for the 30th year. The festivities kicked off on Friday night with an Oyster Roast, with guests wearing pearls to mark the pearl anniversary of the sponsorship. On Saturday, the celebration continued with a beautiful party on the hill topped off with a celebratory cake, cut by Mrs. J. Maxwell Moran and George Strawbridge, Race Co-Chairmen, and Lee Woolley, Mid-Atlantic President, BNY Mellon Wealth Management.

"Over the years, proceeds from the races have helped the Brandywine Conservancy protect more than 59,000 acres of beautiful countryside. We are so appreciative for the support of all of our sponsors. That's what it's all about-- experiencing the thrill of horse racing across open country with your friends and family while preserving our wonderful countryside."

Logan, executive director of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art. "Open space is important for many reasons, including habitat, farming, views, recreation and, most importantly, water quality, which directly impacts hundreds of thousands of people who rely on the Brandywine for their drinking water."

The Willistown Boy Scout Troop 78 also celebrated an anniversary, marking 25 years of volunteer service to the races. There were 160 volunteers in total; eight of whom have volunteered at the races for all 25 years. A picnic to thank the Troop is scheduled for this summer.

All proceeds from the Radnor Hunt Races benefit the clean water and open space programs of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art.
