Robert A. Powell Sr., 77, of West Grove, died Friday, March
25, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was the
husband of W. Jean Adams Powell with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Chester, he was the son of the late Archie K. and
Anna Bennett Powell.
Bob owned and operated Powell’s Used Cars and Tag Service,
in Avondale for 45 years, retiring in 1990.
He served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1957.
He was a lifetime member of the Avondale Fire Co.
He enjoyed working, deep sea fishing, and hunting. In 2001
he started travelling in his motor home and since then has travelled in almost
all of the states including Alaska.
In the 1950’s he owned and operated the Kennett Auction.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert
A. Powell, Jr. of Coatesville; one daughter, Scarlett A. Hamm and her husband
Keith of Elkton, Md.; five grandchildren, Megan L. Alpaugh, Stephanie H.
Swayne, Zanna L. Powell, Paige A. Powell, and Devon Dixon; three
great-grandchildren, Remington Alpaugh, Justin Stasiulewicz, Kayhla
Tomey.
He was predeceased by one sister, Virginia L. Riale.

Thursday, March 31, at the New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Route 896
in New London.
