Rock N Roar at the Philly Zoo this Sunday morning.
•The Philadelphia Zoo is calling it a Rock N Roar Concert. Bring a blanket and some chairs this Sunday, July 9, and get ready to sing and dance along with Alex and the Kaleidoscope with interactive, kid-friendly songs on Impala Lawn. The concert is included with general admission and membership and runs from 10-11 a.m. Admission can be purchased here.
•Stories and science will come together on July 17 at the Rachel Kohl Library. The event is Talewise: Science Heroes. Two unlikely heroes work together to save their town (and the planet) from a super-polluting mastermind. Throughout the adventure, volunteers will help the performer conduct several exciting science experiments that bring this story to life. Explore Newton’s Laws of Motion, air pressure, chemical reactions, and more. This is an outdoor event beginning at 1 p.m.
Yoga class followed by a wine tasting this Sunday at Galer Estate Vineyard and Winery.
•Galer Estates Vineyard and Winery is bringing wine and yoga together for Yoga and Meditation this Sunday, July 9, and again on Sundays, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10. Each session begins at 10:30 a.m. and costs $40. Following the yoga class, the teacher will lead a relaxing reiki-infused sound bath with her crystal singing bowls. The class will be outdoors (weather permitting), followed by light bites and a glass of wine, included in the ticket cost. Go here for tickets.

•If fishing on the Brandywine is of interest, check out the Hagley Museum. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of fishing on the Brandywine — no fishing license required. See if you can catch a sunfish, bluegill, or even largemouth bass. Bamboo poles will be provided with fishing line, bob, and hook. Poles will be pre-strung, and bait will be hooked for your convenience. Included with museum admission. Free for Hagley members. Event dates are July 15 and 29, Aug. 5 and 19, and on Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
•Antiques, home décor, handmade crafts, pottery, jewelry, gifts, fine art, pet portraits, furniture, cocktails, beer, gourmet treats, barbecue, ice cream, and more will be available at Winterthur’s third annual Artisan Market on July 15 and 16. Take a lesson in solar astronomy at Rachel Kohl Library.
•Kids can get a lesson in solar astronomy and the science of light at the Rachel Kohl Library on Friday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event includes hands-on viewing with a solar telescope.
•Concord Township’s rescheduled movie in the park, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, is this Saturday, June 24 at dusk in the township park on Smithbridge Road. This is a free event sponsored by Team Toyota of Glen Mills.
It’s Wine 101 at Galer Estates Vineyard and Winery, June 25-29.
•Learn more about wine from this Sunday, June 25 to Thursday, June 29 as Galer Estates Winery and Vineyard offers a class, Wine 101. This five-day educational wine class will be taught by Galer Estate’s Winemaker and Certified Specialist of Wine, Virginia Mitchell. Each day, this 90-minute class will feature a new wine topic and a daily wine tasting of three wines. Pack your lunch and learn something new about the local and global wine scene. •Opera Philadelphia brings its multitalented singers, orchestra, and chorus to South Jersey on Thursday, July 13, at 8 p.m. for a family-friendly night of opera conducted by Collingswood’s Elizabeth Braden. Dubbed Opera Philadelphia’s Christmas in July, the free, 90-minute concert will feature nearly 40 musicians and singers and is part of a special 2023 Twilight Concert Series lineup to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Cooper River Park. Get down with some Cajun French music from Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys at Longwood Gardens on July 9.
•The Cajun-French music group Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys will perform at Longwood Gardens on July 9 at 7 p.m. The performance is planned for the Orchard near the Meadow Garden. Members’ guests are welcome but must be accompanied by a member. Guests not included in a membership require admission tickets. Complimentary guest tickets may be used on these evenings. There are no chairs or benches so people will have to set up their own chairs or blankets beginning at 5 p.m.
Summer camps at West Chester for 7- to 22-year-olds.
•Registration is now open, and spots remain for select summer camps and programs at West Chester University. More than 20 camp programs are available for the enrichment and education of area youth from ages 7 – 22. There are camps focusing on music, theatre, art, writing, sports, and more. Programs are taught by expert faculty, student-athletes, and local professionals who are specialists in the camp’s field. All programs take place on West Chester University’s campus in state-of-the-art facilities. •On Monday, May 29, the Brandywine Baptist Church Cemetery will be the site of the annual Memorial Day celebration hosted by VFW Post 811. The special event will include various color guards, music, a 21-gun salute, the placing of flowers on veterans’ graves, and a benediction. This year’s speaker is historian and re-enactor Fred Magner. The program will begin at 8:30a.m. and last approximately 30 minutes. Brandywine Baptist Church, 1463 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford.
•The Residence at Chadds Ford is continuing to collect old eyeglasses and hearing aids through June 1. The items will be given to the Lions Club. A drop box for the glasses and hearing aids is located in the lobby at 1778 Wilmington Pike in Chadds Ford.

•The award-winning Clover Market returns to Kennett Square on Sunday, June 4 from 10-4 p.m. for a curated outdoor artisan market. This free event takes place at the 600 S. Join photographer John Milleker at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, for Drawing with Light: A History of Photography. John has intimate knowledge of the processes of photography through two centuries as he still practices, teaches, and demonstrates nearly all of them. •The next Summer Nights at Hagley is Wednesday, Jun 7 from 5-8 p.m. Relax and enjoy an after-work stroll along the Brandywine’s most beautiful mile on summer Wednesday evenings from June through August. •It’s belly up to the bar at the Brandywine Battlefield Park on Saturday, June 17. The first-ever Brews at the Battlefield runs from 5-8 p.m. At least seven breweries are scheduled to bring their product for a night of fun, music, food and beer. Tickets are $40.00 per person for general admission and $15.00 per person for designated drivers. This is a 21 and over (with valid ID), rain or shine event. The wonder of Yuletide is on display at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library this season! •West Chester University’s Wells School of Music faculty, staff, students, and alumni will come together to pay tribute to one of its most illustrious alumni: arranger, composer, educator, and publisher Robert Harry “Bob” Curnow ’63. A week-long celebration in honor of Curnow will culminate in a free public concert of the Criterions Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Curnow, on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre, 817 S. •Chadds Ford Township will hold its annual recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at the township building. During the event, the Open Space Committee will be handing out 100 free trees to residents (proof of residency required). As part of its continuing education program, Longwood Gardens is offering a two-day workshop, Discovering Winter Resident Birds. Join Delaware Nature Society’s Joe Sebastiani and learn how to recognize regional winter resident bird species, discuss native plant species with which these birds associate, and explore how to better support them. Begin your experience with an online orientation and then join us here in the Gardens for a guided bird discovery walk through Pierce’s Park, the Meadow Garden, and Forest Walk to see these beauties in the landscape. There’s an online orientation on Monday, Nov. 14, from 6-7:15 p.m., and an onsite walk from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. The inclement weather date is Thursday, Nov. 17. The cost is $49. •All aboard for a holiday favorite. The Brandywine River Museum of Art is gearing up to please everyone’s inner Choo-Choo Charlie. The Brandywine Railroad is pulling into the museum’s station on Nov. 19 through Jan. 8. the Brandywine Railroad features trains running on 2,000 feet of track and contains more than 1,000 pieces, including locomotives, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys that pass through a small village, a farm, factories, a drive-in movie theater, and even a carnival. The train display is included in the cost of general admission.
•Dance to the hits of the 1970s/80s/90s at a Concord Adult Social & Dance Party on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 7-10 p.m. at the BYC Gymnasium – 41 S. Thornton Road. •Spero Demetri Ferentinos was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony on Oct. 17. Spero’s Eagle Scout service project was completed at the Kennett Square YMCA. There, he raised funds, designed, constructed, and filled with soil, five garden beds to be used by the Montessori school for organic gardening. Spero is a senior in the class of 2023 at Unionville High School.
The next meeting of the Chadds Ford Business Association is 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, at Galer Estate Vineyard and Winery, 700 Folly Hill Road, in East Marlborough Township.
