The Delaware County Symphony under the baton of guest conductor Sebastian Grand opens the concert with the ever popular Overture to La Forza del Destino by Guiseppe Verdi which captures the vibrant emotions of Italian Opera. The program continues with the lush and romantic sounds of Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff featuring guest soloist Tom Hicks and concludes with Symphony No. 4 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto is said to be an emotional journey into the inner soul of Russian romanticism by sharing majestic melodies of love, loss and triumph. His composing genius in this breathtaking work is built on soaring Russian melodies and soothing inner harmonies that are dramatically exchanged between the pianist and the symphony. The work, with over 29,000 notes, is a technical challenge for all pianists and requires a special artist with superb virtuosic skills and emotional depth. It is Rachmaninoff's most popular enduring and passionate piece and it established his fame as a concerto composer. This is a concert not to be missed!!!
