Next week’s movie at Uptown! Performing Arts Center is True Grit, the strangest trio ever to track a killer. A fearless, one-eyed U.S. marshal who never knew a dry day in his life (John Wayne), a Texas ranger thirsty for bounty money, and a stubborn young girl who didn't care what they were or who they were as long as they had true grit. Showtime is 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center is located at 226 North High Street, West Chester. Victoria Wyeth will the special guest storyteller on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. for “Ahoy, Me Hearties! A Pirate Storytime” at the Kennett Library where she will be reading an excerpt from ”Treasure Island” to young buccaneers and “booklubbers” from Kennett Square and the surrounding area. Wyeth is a champion for children’s literacy and education and is lending her voice (literally and figuratively) to help spread the joy of reading in our community.

Driver's testing at CCIU.

The Chester County Intermediate Unit has recently collaborated with PennDOT to satisfy the need for additional driver’s testing centers for future Pennsylvania drivers. Now you can take your driver’s test and receive your license at multiple locations throughout Chester County. The testing centers are open on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To schedule your driver’s test, you must request an appointment at www.cciu.org/driverstest. Fees are a standard rate of $100; discounted rate (for drivers completing the CCIU’s Driver Education Online course and Behind-the-Wheel Training) - $75; retest rate (at CCIU facility only) - $60.

Chadds Ford Township is offering another day of painting at Painter’s Follywith another Paint the Folly event on Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.If twelve (12) artists register, a tour will be available at two different times during the day by Helen Sipala who will re-tell and share stories about her relationship with Andrew Wyeth that have never been heard before. The registration fee is $25 and may be paid in advance or the day of the event. Beginning on Saturday, Aug. 17, the Delaware County Register of Wills office will be open one Saturday per month from 9 a.m. to noon for marriage license applications. The Saturday hours will be by appointment only on the third Saturday of each month (with some exceptions for holiday weekends). Residents can call 610-891-4400 to make an appointment. No appointment is necessary for marriage license applications Monday-Friday. Marriage record services will not be available on Saturdays.

The Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra will be holding auditions on Saturday, Aug.17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. To schedule an audition time, call the Music School Wilmington Branch at 302-762-1132. Students will be asked to play 2 scales in 2 keys of choice and will be asked to play both legato and staccato, and at fast and slow tempos. Additionally, one solo piece is required demonstrating contrasting styles (accompaniment and memorization are not required).
