Domestic Violence Center holds gala

The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County’s annual All that is Purple Gala event will be held on Thursday evening April 27, at the Mendenhall Inn in Kennett Square, from 6– 8:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s DVCCC gala is Embracing Hope and Healing.  The event will celebrate the commitment and kindness of DVCCC supporters, the strength and successes of survivors, and the organization’s resilience throughout recent years of unprecedented challenges.

The mission of the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County is to reduce, remedy, and prevent domestic violence in Chester County.

The DVCCC’s Annual Gala event will include live entertainment and gourmet dinner stations with reservations starting at $150.00 per person.  To make reservations and find additional information about the gala, please visit https://www.dvcccpa.org/gala.

Police Log March 29: DUIs, harassment, theft

On March 24, state police arrested a man who arrived at the Avondale barracks for DUI. The unnamed suspect was there to pick up a passenger from a previous DUI investigation.

State police arrested a 20-year-old Oxford man on drug possession charges in Kennett Square on March 24. According to the report, the suspect, not identified, was arrested following a traffic stop for a vehicle code infraction at W. Cypress Street and Sams Lane, at 8:30 a.m. on March 24. Police said the suspect showed signs of impairment and that drugs and paraphernalia were visible.

A traffic stop for vehicle code infractions led to a 28-year-old woman from Kennett Square being arrested for DUI. The incident happened on E. Baltimore Pike at Greenwood Road, at 12:31 a.m. on March 24. Police said they observed signs of impairment and a sobriety field test also indicated impairment. The woman was not identified in the report.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man from Kennett Square on DUI charges following a traffic stop at McFarlan Road and Nutes Farm Lane in Kennett Township at 8:26 p.m. on March 18. No other details were released.

A 32-year-old man from Toughkenamon was arrested for DUI in Kennett Square on March 26. Police didn’t identify the suspect, but said the arrest came after a traffic stop at W. Cypress Street and S. Mill Road

State police are investigating a case of harassment in which an unidentified man punched a 31-year-old woman from New Castle. Police are calling it a road rage incident. According to the report, the fight was in the area of Route 1 and Bayard Road in East Marlborough Township on March 26 at 3:20 p.m.

A 41-year-old woman from Kennett Square was arrested on DUI charges following a March 26 traffic stop on Route 1 at Bayard Road in East Marlborough Township. Police said they made the arrest at 1:05 a.m.

On March 25, at 1:36 a.m., police made a traffic stop near the intersection of S. Wawaset and Corrine roads. The stop led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man from West Chester for driving under the influence. Police said they made the stop after observing traffic violations.

Police arrested a 49-year-old woman on DUI charges following a traffic stop on Lenape Road at Route 1 in Kennett Township on March 25. A report said the traffic stop came at 1:19 a.m. for vehicle code violations.

A 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl face shoplifting charges after trying to steal $82 worth of cosmetic merchandise from the East Marlborough Township Walmart on March 24. The incident happened at 4:05 p.m.

Police said John Schwartz, 73, of Kennett Square, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop at the intersection of Walnut and South streets in Kennett Township on March 15. The incident happened at 8:32 p.m.

A police report said Jean Broillet, 39, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with DUI after the vehicle he was driving was stopped for being operated without the use of headlamps. The incident occurred on March 15, at approximately 2:36 a.m. in the 100 block of East Cypress Street. Upon making contact with Broillet, the report said, officers observed indicators suggesting intoxication, and field sobriety tests showed impairment. Broillet refused to provide a chemical test of his breath but was processed and released, pending the issuance of a summons, according to the report.
