Guilty plea anticipated for Moore

Former Kennett Township Manager Lisa Moore is expected to plead guilty and be sentenced next month on charges she embezzled $3.2 million from Kennett Township.

Lisa Moore, accused of embezzlement, is expected to plead guilty.

That announcement was made Wednesday night in an email that supervisors’ Chairman Richard Leff sent out to the community after the supervisors’ meeting was canceled when the remnants of Hurricane Ida passed through the area.

“At this evening’s Board of Supervisors meeting I was planning to give an update on the ongoing prosecution of former township Manager Lisa Moore, being conducted by the Chester County District Attorney’s office,” Leff wrote. “According to the court docket, Moore is scheduled to enter a guilty plea. The Board of Supervisors has been informed by the District Attorney’s office that the case will likely proceed to sentencing on that day as well.”

The plea deal is expected to take place in Judge David Bortner’s courtroom on Oct. 4.

The supervisors had said in July that it appeared as though Moore’s case was headed toward a guilty plea.

Moore was first placed on administrative leave in 2019 following the discovery of suspicious transactions in the township’s financial accounts and was fired in May of that same year. An investigation by the Chester County District Attorney’s office and a forensic accounting firm resulted in the announcement on Dec. 10, 2019, of criminal charges against the former long-time township manager, including 112 counts of first-, second-, and third-degree felonies and 26 counts of first- and second-degree misdemeanors.

Images of Ida

The village is flooded. (Photo courtesy of Katharine King of Chadds Ford Tree Service.)

The last hoorah of Hurricane Ida swept through the Brandywine Valley Wednesday night, flooding the Brandywine Creek and making it look and run more like a river than a creek. Chadds Ford Village flooded as it hadn’t flooded in years and even the recently redone Route 926 Bridge had to be shut down because the approach from the Birmingham Township side flooded.

Ace Hardware in Pocopson Township has two feet of water in the store and there was one unconfirmed report that employees at the Brandywine River Museum of Art were temporarily stranded, and the ground level there flooded.

Chadds Ford Township Fire Marshal Phil Wenrich said emergency responders made three house rescues and two car rescues because of the storm and that there have been reports of missing cars.

Here are just a few of the images.
