• The YMCA of Greater Brandywine — which includes the Kennett Y — reopened Monday, June 29. During the first week, wellness centers and indoor tracks, as well as limited group exercise classes, will be available. On July 6, YGBW anticipates reopening Childwatch, as well as indoor lap pools and locker rooms (for lap swimmers only). Additional amenities and programming will re-open soon. • Politicians want votes, but so does Mt. Cuba Center. Mt. Cuba is competing for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards vying for Best Botanical Garden in North America. With the competition halfway over, the center is hovering in the top three against 18 other competitors. People can vote for Mt. Cuba daily until polls close at noon on Monday, July 6. • Delaware County will be resuming passport services in Room 126 of the Government Center, 201 West Front Street, Media, on Monday, July 6. Passport services will be available Monday- Friday from 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, except for holiday weekends. There is a $10 fee for a passport photo. Masks are required for entry, and only the applicant (and family members applying for passports) will be permitted to enter the office. Appointments are not being taken.
• It's an outdoor movie weekend in West Chester this Independence Day weekend. It's the "Drive UP!" Uptown! is bringing the “Jaws” and “ET” to the outdoors. “ET” is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3, and “Jaws” is set for 8:30 p.m. on July 4. Bring your chair, your family, your friends, and sit under the stars on the Bicentennial Garage roof, 20 South High Street, West Chester. Social distancing and other safety precautions will be in place. Also, tickets must be purchased online.
