Mitchell Camp, of Chadds Ford, has been inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success at Kutztown University. The society is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. • Chadds Ford native Jennifer Nicole Campbell will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.2 at Neumann University on Sunday, Feb. 11 with the Delaware County Symphony. Campbell is the DCS artist in residence. Concert tickets are $15 or $12 for seniors and students but, upon presentation of a Delaware County or Montgomery County Library card, you may purchase one ticket at the regular price and then receive one free ticket at the ticket table the day of the concert. The concert will be at the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center at One Neumann Drive, Aston.
• It’s a reprieve for train lovers. The Brandywine River Museum of Art has extended the exhibit of the Brandywine Railroad through Jan. 28. It was scheduled for storage last weekend. According to the announcement, the extension was due to “popular demand.” The display, a holiday family favorite since 1972, offers an array of both toy and scale model trains made by Lionel, Williams, Atlas, Mike’s Train House, K-line and others. With more than 1,000 pieces — including locomotives, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys, all moving along 2,000 feet of track — the annual Brandywine Railroad exhibition is one of the largest modular model railroad installations in the world.
• Historic Sugartown is introducing a new Gold Tooling/Gilding workshop into its series of book bindery workshops. Ramon Townsend of ColonialBindery.com has developed this new class to allow participants to focus on the specialized technique of gold tooling. Using gold leaf, gold foil and Historic Sugartown’s collection of bookbinding finishing tools, participants will learn traditional methods of designing and decorating leather in gold, the same way fine books were gold-tooled hundreds of years ago. The first workshop is Feb. 7. Workshop Admission: $60 per person, all supplies included. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to six participants. • The Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts its 10th annual plein air art event, Paint Out Chadds Ford. Between Feb. 1 and 3, artists from the Mid-Atlantic region will be painting around the Chadds Ford area as well as at the Barns Brinton House, John Chads House and along Brandywine Creek. Their work will go on exhibition on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the artists’ reception and wet painting sale at the Society’s Visitors Center at 1736 N. Creek Road. All work will be available for immediate purchase. Tickets are $15 for non-members/$10 CFHS members. Tickets are available here. Light refreshments will be served. A portion of the sale of each painting supports the work of the Chadds Ford Historical Society. The art will remain on exhibit and available for purchase through March 2, 2018.
• On Thursday, Jan. 25, Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center in West Chester presents: Kiss the Sky-The Jimi Hendrix Re-Experience and Heavy Cream tribute bands in an epic night of Guitar-God music straight out of the 1960’s. The guitarists in the parts of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton are both virtuosos in their own right. Left-handed Jimi Bleu as Hendrix is the world’s finest and longest running Hendrix performance artist, and Billy “the Kid” Théoden as Eric Clapton is a 16-year-old guitar phenomenon. Uptown!
