Art in the Preserve

• Artists will be interpreting the White Clay Creek Preserve on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work of nine artists will be on display at the London Meeting House. Art in the Preserve gives visitors the chance to interact with artists as they work in the preserve. The artwork will be on display and available for purchase. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 8. • Kirk's Premier Martial Arts and Krav Maga will host two seminars Sunday and Monday, Oct. 8 and 9, at the studio on Route 202, 1572 Wilmington Pike. Guy Mor, the head of Martial Arts Discipline at Wingate Institute, Israel national sports institution, will conduct the seminars. The Sunday event — from 6-8 p.m. — covers the history of Krav Maga — an Israeli martial art form — and costs $50. On Monday, from 1-5 p.m., there is a performance enhancement seminar for students and instructors. Cost is $100. For more information, call 610-459-1933.

• The Concord Senior Expo is Thursday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brandywine Youth Club, 41 S. Thornton Road.

Longwood Fire Co. open house is Sunday, Oct. 15.

• Longwood Fire Co. will hold its annual open house on Sunday, Oct. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. A helicopter landing will take place along with a vehicle rescue demonstration. Tours of the station will be given. Food and beverages will be served. A raffle will also take place. The fire company has teamed up with Walgreens to provide a limited supply of flu shots.

• PAWS for People, a Newark-based pet therapy organization will host its ninth annual Wag-n-Walk & 5K Run — and 1-mile "Doggie Walk" — on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Delcastle Recreation Center, 710 McKennans Church Road in Wilmington, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 22. Registration for the 5K run/walk opens at 8, with the race start at 9 a.m. It is followed by a more relaxed, family-friendly "Doggie Walk." Registration for this event begins at 10 with a start at 11:30 a.m. Participants can register as individuals or teams. Adults (13 & up) - 5K or Doggie Walk, $30; both events: $55. • The Uptown! Vocal Challenge is Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Knauer Performing Arts Center, 225 N. High Street in West Chester. Nonprofessional soloists of any age and at any point on their musical journey are welcome to enter the challenge as long as it's not their regular paying job. A grand cash prize of $500 will be awarded. Registration is $25. Enter by Oct. 10 to guarantee inclusion. Tickets are available at uptownwestchester.org.
