How helping homeless could lead to paradise

For more than 20 years, Home of the Sparrow has worked to combat one of less visible crises in affluent Chester County: homelessness.

Proceeds from the Paradise Vacation Raffle will support the innovative programs of Home of the Sparrow.

Whether due to domestic violence, job loss, or health-care costs, women both young and old can find themselves without a home. Even with a supportive network, it can be difficult to get back on track, a scenario Home of the Sparrow knows all too well.

Through programs that provide access to innovative housing, education, and supportive services, Home of the Sparrow has made inroads, assisting 433 women and children this past year alone.

But the nonprofit needs the public’s help as well and is seeking sponsorship and attendees for its “Jazz at Brushwood” fundraiser. It will be held Saturday, June 18, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at Brushwood Stable-Bryn Clovis Annex in Malvern, the renowned horse farm of Betty Moran.

Organizers promise an evening in paradise with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and dinner buffet, live and silent auctions, and dancing with City Rhythm, all on the scenic grounds of Brushwood Stable.

Individual tickets are $120 or $50 for individuals under 30-years-old, and sponsorship opportunities are available. For sponsorship information or to purchase tickets please call 610-647-4940.

For those who can’t make it to the gala, a scenic vista is still possible for those who take a chance on winning the Paradise Vacation Raffle. Only 150 tickets will be sold, and the winner does not need to be present at time of drawing. For details, click here.

Brushwood Stable is located at 737 Sugartown Rd. in Malvern. For more information on Home of the Sparrow, visit http://homeofthesparrow.org.
