'History on Tap' will delve into the background of 'The Blob'  on Tuesday, June 21.

The Chester County Historical Society will present “The Blob: A Regional Spotlight,” on Tuesday, June 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Great American Pub in Phoenixville.

Is “The Blob” a cinematic cult classic? A regional phenomenon? An unstoppable monster menace? A modern town revival tale? Perhaps it’s all of the above.

Chuck Francisco will lead an exploration into the rich local soil from which “The Blob” sprang. This 1958 film came out of nowhere, or so it seemed to anyone from beyond the region. Francisco will discuss the many local connections and how a tiny studio making religious short films out of Yellow Springs crafted one of the most beloved monster movies of the 1950s.

Francisco has written for a number of publications, including Pop Kernal, Mania, Exploitation Retrospect, and Cinedelphia. An avid swing dancer and cocktail connoisseur, he co-hosts several repertoire film series at the historic Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, and is on the planning committee for their yearly Blobfest celebration.

Before the program, participants are invited to the nearby Colonial Theatre at 25 Bridge Street at 5:45 p.m. for a sneak peek at the theatre’s expansion.

Lots of great drinks will be available for purchase, and the Great American Pub is generously offering an array of appetizers at no cost. History on Tap is sponsored by BB&T and WCHE 1520AM; Colleen and Basel Frens sponsor the portable sound system.

RSVP for this event at 610-692-4800 or rsvp@chestercohistorical.org. The Great American Pub is located at 148 Bridge Street, Phoenixville, 19460. For more information, visit
