With a month to go before the final vote, Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board directors Monday night approved a proposed final budget of more than $90 million for the 2019-202 academic year. The final vote is expected on June 17. Taxes are scheduled to increase.
Director John Murphy, the vice chairman of the board’s Finance Committee said the millage rate for Chester County property owners would increase 2.28 percent to 29.12 mills, while the rate for Delaware County property owners jumps 2.23 percent to 25.71 mills. (A mill is a tax of $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value.)
Those increases, along with other local revenue sources bring the total local revenue to almost $73.5 million. With state and federal sources, plus a carryover fund balance of more than $9 million, the district is expected to have $99.5 million at its disposal for the next school year.
On the expense side of the ledger, the district anticipates spending more than $50.6 million for instruction, plus $28 million for support services, $1.9 million for the operation of non-instructional services as well as another $9.6 million for other expenditures.
