Police Log  April 3: Drug busts, thefts, DUIs

Pennsylvania State Police

Police said Nicholas John Wanner, 21, of New Castle, was arrested for drug possession following a traffic stop in Chadds Ford Township on March 2. According to the report, Wanner was stopped on Route 1 just west of Route 202 at 1:12 p.m. A “probable cause” search of the vehicle was conducted and marijuana and paraphernalia were found, according to the report.

State police from the Media barracks were investigating a natural death at Polito’s Barber Shop on Route 202 on March 5. A report said a Clifton Heights, N.Y. man suffered a “medical episode” while driving and crashed into the barber shop.

Someone stole a $400 pump from a water filtration system at a property on Locust Farm Road in Concord Township on March 9. Police are investigating.

An unidentified man from Glen Mills was charged with harassment following a March 10 incident on Governor Markham Drive in Concord Township. No details of the incident were released.

An unknown suspect robbed the CVS store in Concord Township shortly before 4 p.m. on March 10.

Aline Ait Alla, 43, of Chadds Ford, was charged with simple assault and harassment, police said. According to the report, the accused threw a desk lamp at the victim, causing bleeding and lacerations of the head. The incident happened 10:26 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, at 216 Painters Crossing.

A police report said Evan Matthew Clarke, 18, of Aston, was charged with possession of marijuana after he was found with the substance at Garnet Valley High School on March 20.

Elizabeth Jezefa Hewes, 39, of Avondale, is accused of retail theft, police said. The accused reportedly removed almost $600 worth of merchandise from the Target store in Concord Township on March 20.

A Delaware woman was injured in a four-vehicle rear-ender traffic accident on Route 202 near Johnson Farm Lane on March 20. Tracy Pottinger, 32, of Wilmington, was injured when her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer. Her car then struck a vehicle in front of her and that vehicle then struck another. Joseph P. Walters, 50, of Hancock, Md., was cited for following too closely.

Police are investigating a reported theft at Harvest Restaurant in Glen Eagle Square on March 20. No other details were released.

State police are also investigating the theft of baby formula from Wegmans and Target in Concord Township on March 21. The same couple are believed to committed both crimes, according to the police report. The total value of the two thefts is $538. The report also said enough leads have been developed that the pair will be arrested shortly.

Police said Michael Charles Soroka, 43, of Garnet Valley, and John Thomas Whalen, 41, of Chichester, were taken into custody on theft and receiving stolen property charges in connection with an October theft of landscaping equipment in Concord Township. They were taken into custody on March 20.

Southern Chester County Regional Police

The Southern Chester County Regional Police Department is investigating the theft of a stop sign and two street signs from Berwick and Sharp Roads, in New Garden Township. The signs had been cut from the poles that they were mounted to. The signs were last seen intact the morning of March 7 and were discovered missing on March 21. The cost of replacement to New Garden Township is approx. $190. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SCCRPD at 610-268-2907. Christopher Sulo, 31, of Townsend, Del. was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), with false identification to law enforcement, and with arrest prior to requisition (fugitive from justice), after he was found to be in possession of a crack pipe and other drug paraphernalia, including syringes containing suspected heroin, police said. The incident occurred on March 19 at 6:54 p.m., in the 700 block of Newark Road, in New Garden Township, and was the result of a traffic stop for an equipment violation, according to the report. Police said Sulo initially provided the name Nicholas Sulo but his true identity was ultimately discovered and a record check revealed that he was wanted on several active warrants out of Delaware. He was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking, where he was processed and held for arraignment. Sulo was committed to the Chester County Prison pending extradition. Also arrested was a passenger, Patrick W. Lamb, 37, of New Castle, police said. He was charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), and with arrest prior to requisition (fugitive from justice), after he was found to be in possession of syringes containing suspected heroin. A record check revealed that Lamb was wanted on an active warrant out of Montgomery County, Pa. He was taken into custody and was transported to Central Booking, where he was processed and held for arraignment. Lamb was subsequently released on $2500 unsecured bail. The case is pending a preliminary hearing.
