• Concord Township is holding a Concert in the Park on Tuesday, June 30, featuring music performed by the 28th Infantry Division Army Band. The concert is at the township park on Smithbridge Road and begins at 7 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and spend a summer evening with family, friends, and neighbors.
• In less than 10 days, the Brandywine Museum of Art will open its newest exhibit, By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth. Betsy James Wyeth (1921–2020) was a designer of complex environments whose lasting legacy in visual art and landscape will be explored for the first time in this exhibition. Her practice extended to the restoration and adaptive reuse of dozens of historical buildings; the architectural design of new structures; an eclectic collecting practice that shaped highly original interior spaces; and the creation of large-format immersive environmental designs in the service of a consistent vision across two states and decades of practice.

• Longwood Gardens is offering a pay-as-you-wish day on June 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Explore the treehouses. Stop by the amazing waterlilies. Take in a spectacular fountain show. • The largest adoption event in the county, Brandywine Valley SPCA’s Summer Mega Adoption® Event is back with more than 1,000 pets under one roof. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware in Newark. Dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens from BVSPCA and participating partner organizations will be available throughout the event for just $35 in adoption fees. The two-day event is supported by Best Friends Animal Society, a national nonprofit organization whose goal is to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters and make the country no-kill.

• The Chester County History Center is offering a virtual look at The Formative Years: Childhood 1830 – 1910 on Tuesday, June 23 from 7-9 p.m. The speaker will be Ellen Endslow is the Director of Collections/Curator at the Chester County History Center. Look at work, education, and leisure defined childhood in the 1800s. In Chester County, how children thrived or survived depended upon family situations and the community’s ability to provide for the youngest generation. This 80-year span of local examples covers the spectrum from idyllic play to the hard realities of life. It looks at the ways in which decisions and reforms by the end of the 1800s served as the foundation for the welfare of children today. This is a pay-as-you-wish evening. Register here.

• Celebrate the height of summer with an elegant evening of cocktails, cuisine, and garden discovery at Mt. Cuba Center on June 27 from 5-8 p.m. Provisions at the Ponds is inspired by the charm of a classic garden party, this immersive tasting experience invites you to explore the gardens through six thoughtfully curated stations, each pairing handcrafted cocktails with seasonal small plates and exclusive insights from Mt. Cuba Center staff. Each tasting station includes one signature cocktail (3–4 oz); one chef-curated tapas-style pairing; and exclusive interpretation and behind-the-scenes insights from Mt. • Now through August, Hagley Museum offers Summer Nights at Hagley, presented by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Relax and enjoy an after-work stroll along the Brandywine’s most beautiful mile on summer Wednesday evenings. Bring the whole family for summer fun in a beautiful outdoor setting. Bring a picnic or sample local food trucks. Dogfish Head craft beer and Woodside Farm Creamery ice cream are also available for purchase. Admission is $5 per person, free for Hagley Members and children under six. Tickets are available at the gate.

• The swing is back in town on Thursday, July 16, at 7 p.m., as alumni of West Chester University’s renowned Criterions Jazz Ensemble will reunite on stage for the 40th annual Criterions Alumni Reunion Concert, a free public performance in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building, 700 S. High Street, West Chester. The concert marks a special year for jazz at West Chester University, celebrating both the 40th alumni reunion concert and the University’s upcoming 100 Years of Jazz celebration. Together, these milestones honor a century of musical excellence and four decades of alumni returning to campus to keep the spirit of the Criterions alive.
