Police Log July 31: Crash, fraud, escaped tortoise

Police said they made a DUI arrest on Thornton Road in Concord Township shortly after 2 a.m. on July 27. The report didn’t include the driver’s name or the reason for the traffic stop.

Avondale Barracks

Police are investigating a case of alleged fraud. The victim is Half Priced Hot Tubs. According to the police report, the victim said unknown persons conducted a fraudulent bank transaction via Automated Clearing House from their business checking account. Approximately $286.38 of fraudulent charges were incurred.

Thomas Cepis, 61, of Kirkwood, Pa., was cited for excessive speed following a July 22 one-vehicle crash on the Kennett Oxford Bypass near Route 82 in East Marlborough Township, police said. According to the report, Cepis said he was changing lanes to pass a vehicle when he lost control. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned. Police reported no injuries. The accident happened at 6:01 a.m.

Kennett Square Police Department

At 10:13 a.m. on July 27, officers received a report of a verbal domestic in the 500 block of Center Street. After further investigation, one subject was taken into custody for simple assault and harassment.

On July 27 at 9:33 a.m., officers were dispatched for a tortoise in the roadway in the 400 block of Birch Street. Officers were familiar with the owner of the tortoise and returned it to its residence inside a gate.
